Acrylic pouring & fluid art:
We all know how difficult it is to clean up silicone ( see my other video) from the canvas to Varnish. Some people used dishsoap in the water they use to thin down their paint with and had good results with cells. But can you use it as drops? Let's see. A little experiment.
Hi. My name is Santana Hagedorn and I'm an artist for acrylic paint pouring and fluid art from the Netherlands. This form of abstract and modern decorative painting is done with Acrylics brought to the right consistency with various pouring mediums, oils and additives. By moving the paint layers, playing with different tools or adding heat I create different effects. Very messy and very fun. The Paintings can be don't know canvas, MDF frames, tiles or other flat surfaces. Can also be used to make daily items and gifts unique f.ex. little boxes or ornaments.
If you like my art and would like to purchase or custom order feel free to contact me via comment, email, Facebook or Instagram

I'm am very new to the pouring haven't even done my 1st one yet I have a few questions if you would kindly help me out can this be done on anything such as wood are is it only for canvas and can you please tell me how much water do I put in the cup before I put my acrylic paint in the cup and what is the ratio of water and acrylic paint you put in each cup and after it drys what kind of varnish do I put on it do I even have to varnish it are can I just spray like a clear gloss over it thanks so much and I love your work your really good

The best way to have your questions answered is by jumping in. Get some cheap OOPS paint and pour it. You will learn so much once you follow the basic techniques from someone you like. Making mistakes, like not putting down something to catch the paint, or not wearing gloves is something you have to do- that way it is seared into your brain.

I used dish soap the other day thinking it’d work because I was told it makes cells instead of silicone & floetrol but it did the same as yours & it left a greasy film in some places. I suppose it wasn’t mixed in properly. Now I have silicone though, I know floetrol is the best but it’s illegal in my country thank you for your video though it was very helpful. Melanie

Flow medium is an Artists product, it is a surfactant and can be used the same way people who use a drop of dish washing soap in their mixing water use it. If you are worried about archival properties you would not experiment at all, most very famous artists have used very strange things in their art work over many years. In the war period many different materials were used by artists just through necessity. Silicone or oils used with water based paints give the effects they do simply because oil and water do not mix. Dish soap is made to dissolve in water so would never give you the same results as an oil. Check out MelyD’s KZfaq Chanel because she never uses any oil and only the paint densities and water to get desired cell effects. Good to see you having fun. Cheers

I found a way to make dish soap look just like silicone cells 60% glue and 40% water That’s my pour medium. Use 2 par medium to 1 part paint. Pour a bit of soap in and then mix. Wait 20 min and mix the bubbles in. You do need a torch to pop the bubbles after you pour. I swear it work just like silicone.

As far as archival properties go, silicone is a bit questionable also, as are all the other products we add to our paints. Who really knows how long anything will last? None of us are going to be around to find out, and most people change their decor and their art preferences so fast that it probably isn't going to matter anyway. The dish soap does work for me, whether added to the paint or added to the water, although I don't really like adding it or the silicone/dimethicone to my paints anyway, since I can still smell them afterward. I prefer not to add anything but water and a little Floetrol. or one of the other flow additives.

Sorry for getting all deep but I need to stick up for her cuz she is right..anyways, I believe art is getting way to serious and losing its spontaneity...long story short, it wasn't a failure at all...I got lazy and decided not to get all deep lol but my agreement with this comment still remains...lol I've seen something like this go for thousands at an art gallery lol there are no rules when it comes to art...it either becomes a trend or it doesn't. That's all.
