Jericho "Action" Jackson is a Detroit police sergeant who was demoted from lieutenant for almost tearing the arm off of sexually violent sociopath Sean Dellaplane, whose father is Peter Dellaplane, a major car manufacturer. But Dellaplane himself is violent as well. Dellaplane kills his wife Patrice by shooting her. And then he plants her body in Jackson's apartment, framing Jackson. Dellaplane won't miss Patrice very much, because he has a drug-addicted mistress named Sydney Ash. He keeps Sydney hooked with a free supply of heroin. Jackson suspects Dellaplane of masterminding a murder spree against local officials from the auto workers' union. Dellaplane's mission is to gain a political power base and choose the next president of the United States. Because of what happened to Dellaplane's son Sean, Dellaplane has taken a particular dislike to Jackson. Jackson gets Sydney's help in going after Dellaplane.

1:06 Guy flies through the windows of adjoining buildings! And no CGI! 👍👍👍👏👏👏 This movie should've turned into a series and Carl Weathers should've been a big star, Vanity should've become a huge singer/actress. Only the 80s brought you movies like this one with great CGI-less action scenes, light-heartedness, funny one-liners and uplifting music. (Another prime example is Beverly Hills Cop II).

Y'all may not know this : Action Jackson was produced by Silver,who is a action movie jaggaernaut,he also made Lethal Weapons,Die Hards,Matrix trilogy,48 hrs the first one,Demolition Man,Commando ,and not to mention the first 2 Predators.,and many others.

Now, call me biased but by watching this awesome trailer which unfortunately isn't on the dvd i have.mr.weathers should've been an major action star:he had looks build and definitely strength.and unlike the two top action stars of the period whom he worked with before this movie.(schwarzenegger and stallone) he could actually act.the 80's made the coolest and best action films.action films today are weak sisters compared to this and the ones i grew up watching.

Totally agree! Just look at him in Happy Gilmore. He wasn't playing the badass action hero in that movie, he was more of a disciplinarian father figure for someone he saw potential in, and he did an exceptional job at it.

Damn right!! I honestly believe that he made Stallone and Schwarzenegger better actors every time he shared the screen with them. One of the most intense performances Schwarzenegger ever gave was when he was going back and forth with Carl Weathers in Predator. Really wish Carl made out better back in the day.

Watched it on dvd last night. Not seen it since watching it on vhs not long after it was released. Carl Weathers perfectly cast the year after he was in Predator. Great time for action films along with Die Hard and Lethal Weapon.

RIP Carl Weathers and Denise Matthews. Carl Weathers was definitely memorable as Action Jackson. This movie was fun to watch! My favorite scenes were the Amen scene, the scene with the young pick pocket fainting when he finally came face to face with Action Jackson, the final party scene and How do you like your ribs? Carl weathers was definitely memorable in all of his police roles: Action Jackson: Sargent / Lieutenant Jericho Jackson (1998) Street Justice: Detective Adam Beaudreaux, (1991-1993) Fortune Dane: Detective Fortune Dane, ( February 15 - March 27, 1986) In The Heat Of The Night: Chief Hampton Forbes ( The last 2 seasons of the show) He took over for Chief Bill Gillespie( Carroll O’connor’s Character) in 1994.
