On May 25th, 2024 I got word that 46A, a grain train, would be heading to Ayer so I set out at CPF-335 in Westminster right around noon time. I didn't realize that the grain train would still be in East Deerfield, I heard that NS B101, an intermodal from Ayer to Chicago, was on its way. I waited about 30 minutes until it came. It led SD60E number 6958 with a very friendly engineer. I decided to chase it for the day so the second spot on the chase was Brickyard Road in Templeton, a new spot that I've never been to before. It came through about 15 minutes later. I then chased it to one more spot at Birch Hill Dam in Royalston as I nearly missed it but managed to get photos, so unfortunately no video. I ended my chase there and went to Jay''s Automotive in Fitchburg. I waited there expecting to see the grain train. The signals turned on a few minutes later, knowing that it was a MBTA train. It was MBTA Outbound 1405 with freshly rebuilt F40PH-3C number 1033 as it roared up the grade into Wachusett. I then decided to head back to CPF-335 in Westminster to see the grain train there. I then ran into some people I had met before and chatted. Not long after, we heard a train but we realized it was the trains moving around at the MBTA layover. MBTA Inbound 1408 came through with CTC-4 number 1711 leading towards Boston. We waited there for about an hour and the grain train still hadn't come through. We did hear that it stopped in Gardner which was about a 10 minute ride so we took advantage of it and got some photos while it was tied down. We heard that B100, B101's counterpart, would be passing through Gardner soon and out of nowhere it came flying through. So we chased it back to Westminster. When we got there, MBTA Outbound 1407 came through first with F40PH-3C number 1053 leading. 15 minutes later, B100 came through as MBTA Inbound 1410 raced each other. Once both of the trains cleared the area, the grain train was ready to proceed through the signals at Gardner, so we waited 30 minutes until the train of the day arrived. It was 46A that led BERX number 7489 with a colorful consist of BNSF ES44AC number 5747, FRMX SD70ACe number 4051, BNSF ES44C4 number 8216, and NS SD70ACC number 1846. After that, I ended my day as it was an awesome one out on the rails!
