you are improving You compensated for them using thin steel,, only bad place for concern is where you dented it I very seldom use tubing less than 3/16
@Rdrake14138 жыл бұрын
Nice looking job except for the spot where you used the jack. I always use a board or steel plate under the jack to keep from marring the surface. Helps spread out the pressure so you don't kink the tubing.

Chain from the hitch pin to the wheel end of axle and place a screw type load binder on the chain, one on each side. Use leverage to your advantage to bring the axles back where they need to be before welding. Just a tip for next time lol.

Nice bridge, (aka trust)!!! I think you had a great idea there to stop the bending of that tube.. as far as the jack is concerned, if you don't mind my cridasistim, I think would have put two comealongs on the wheels (or out riggers) to the hitch and used them with the jack in the center to pull the beam back to square or true then weld the bridge to the beam. Of course that is to keep from putting to much strain against the bridge and denting it as had happened with your idea. other than that you had a great idea for what you have done!!! I enjoyed the information and videos that showed what you were doing and why, looks excellent!!!

Wes Pandy, does it work right, er, correctly now?? Show it unfolding for raking and folding up for travel, without any glitch, please. I wondered if the extra weight or different leverage for the short stroke hydraulic cylinder was gonna work right. H&S should just make that beam out of 1/4" steel as you mentioned. It takes very little use to make it start bending. It would catch any user pretty quickly.

I think you said this rake was under warranty. If so maybe you could call the dealer and get them to fix it with an upgrade. They'll just say that you have abused the rake like some of your You Tube trolls. Your point about trashing one and using it's parts later was a great example of why farm headquarters often look junky. Are you trolls satisfied?

can a restrictor be put on the cyninder line to slow down the action ?
@ih12068 жыл бұрын
Sure you could do something like that, but when you get to the end up the field, you want this to jump off the ground as quickly as possible so you can turn around. We use an older H&S 8 wheel rake and it's pretty slow to pick up and turn around, keep in mind though that in using a 50 year old tractor on it with less than ideal hydraulics compared to Wes's newer machines.

Hy, here in Europe, wheel rakes are almost non existent. Have you ever run one and is it just the lack of pto that makes them more popular in US. At least KRONE is a big manufacturer of them around here.
@arnoldcustom8 жыл бұрын
I would have gone the full length of that beam, its going to transfer the bending to the ends over time, or stress crack from fetid being short
@mattg1418 жыл бұрын
why don't you use the wire welder on the other equipment, as compared to the stick welder?
@two-strokesmoke72898 жыл бұрын
+mattg141 I think I know why, so here goes: deeper penetration for all out strength wasn't as much of a requirement on this project per se because it is thinner material. (1/8 inch) Wire feeds tend to be easier to weld "weird" positions and you can put a heavier bead on lighter iron without burning through..... Also most of the wire used or sold for wire feeds is 70,000 psi, which is more than adequate for most farm repairs; as the grade of steel in farm equipment isn't as heavy, or a different grade as lets say than "construction equipment". Long winded, perhaps Wes would have something different to say on this.....
@cdsparksart44408 жыл бұрын
flap wheels work a whole lot better for removing paint
@metaalateliermetal8 жыл бұрын
You did 6 welds on the same side of the tube, it could be the new tube bended.
@dennisbuckner69578 жыл бұрын
ok here is a thought from a totally new direction and take a minute for it to sink in,, you have 2 wheels and a hitch point (ie triangle) what if you too left one wheel solid like it is but made the other wheel a dollie type arrangement then there would be no tow-in../tow out..between the wheels and would not wear the tires this is a bit extreme and it might not track like it did before but would alleviate the tire wear problem ..like a said a bit extreme but......
@dennisbuckner69578 жыл бұрын
yes it would be but with nothing to push against it would not laterally wear out and would run a steady track
@perryc89438 жыл бұрын
If you would have let the rake down and blocked them up to take the weight off the beam it might have straightened out all by itself....maybe
