What would you do when you think no one is watching? What Would You Do? (WWYD?) explores the varying answers with the help of hidden cameras capturing individuals who have been placed within seemingly everyday situation that quickly go ary. The individuals on this hidden camera show are forced to make tough calls when directly faced with situations of racism, violence, hate crimes, and other hot button cultural issues. Catch John Quinones reporting on these individuals as they make split-second decisions to intervene or mind their own business. WWYD? airs Friday nights at 9|8c on ABC.
What Would You Do? (WWYD) is a hidden camera show, hosted by ABC News correspondent John Quinones, in which unknowing bystanders are placed in uncomfortable, and often compromising real world scenarios in public. WWYD’s hidden cameras focus on the average person’s responses and reactions to these issues of social responsibility. Topics such as gay couples being affectionate in public, date rape, racism and racial profiling, interracial couples, abusive parents, drunk driving, and harassment of the homeless are touched upon in this series. What will you do? Would you choose to intervene in these situations? Watch and join the discussion.

My first job was in a convenience store and we had a deaf customer, she came to the til and spoke to me and I had real difficulty understanding her so I asked her to write it down. I felt so ashamed that she was making a great effort to communicate with me and I couldn't reciprocate. It still bothers me 22 years later but it seems like I did the right thing.

This happened to me and I was absolutely shocked when a young woman with a small child stood up and began to help and really didn't like the way that the staff member reacted to me, the simplest of things can really help me like people helping me. It's absolutely fantastic that some people are so helpful and are willing to stand up for you even though they don't know you

I used to work at a gas station and run it over night myself. My favorite customer was deaf and he taught me how to say a few things but not enough to communicate fully so this really hits home. If you actually pay attention you can understand what they are trying to say when their lips move. Him asking for a menu hit me so hard. How can you not understand I'm deaf and I'd like a menu? They play rude very well and these people who stood up for him are amazing. I love wwyd. It makes me feel like I'm not the only one who has a heart and I have been in some of the situations they portray and have been looked down on on occasion for stepping in and opening my mouth for someone who needed a voice. It just makes you wonder how many people didn't step in when all they needed was someone who cared enough about other people to take just a minute to help.

I think that this video is really eye opening because deaf discrimination is often overlooked. If I saw this happening, I would help the customer with what they needed and discussed with the waiter and manager about how discrimination is wrong and that in the future they have to be more patient and helpful. Thank you so much for this video, 🤟🏼 Nyle Hana💞

Honestly I’m typically worried that a deaf person will be upset with me when they come in to my work, I run off... but I run to the office grab a pen and print receipt paper to make everything easier. One lady seemed really really grateful once that I was patient with her, to quote the episode “it’s not my job,” yes it is go grab a pen and paper it’s one of the easiest things you can do and more often than not a deaf person is the best customer you can have. They are polite and patient so long as you’re willing to work with them.

I made sure to always take the time to understand their needs and wants and seeing their face brighten up when they seen i knew at least some ASL made me wanna learn more. we shouldn’t be making out deaf brothers and sisters feel excluded!!

This showed me to react responsibly in situations that need it, I have extreme anxiety wich shuts me off, clinical depression which takes my energy and adhd which makes me react with anger more often then I should so through the combination I am used to being standoffish, I'm growing as a person from quiting my factory job to be a support worker, I am increasing my humility while learning to have a backbone of my own, and if anything like this happened Infront of my eyes now I would confront it not just to empower myself but for the main reason of supporting people that it affects, I hope other people realise it takes nothing from you and only makes you stronger to do the same.

It's nice to know that some people understand and can relate to the struggles the deaf or partially deaf people face. I just wish I was more fluent in sign language. The actor Nyle played in switched at birth, one of my favorite tv shows. The show teaches alot about the deaf community and I'm glad the show was brought on for people to watch. I've been in a restaurant before with a deaf customer sitting alone, waiter couldnt comprehend what the issue was so I went over and signed "show me" to the man who immediately pointed to what he wanted and I told the waiter his order. Since I was alone as well and know minimal ASL I pulled out my phone and opened notepad typed up that I dont know much ASL but can I join you? He nodded, we ended up going back and forth typing msgs. We ate, I paid for both our meals, he was grateful. His last msg he typed me was no one has ever treated me with respect like you thank you. Made me happy, it's not difficult to be observant and realize the customer is trying to show you what they want because they cant hear or talk.

Two years ago, my hearing was muffled due to earwax buildup. I could only hear a little bit. Mommy often had to shout whenever she talked to me. Seven years ago, I went to school with a girl who was hard of hearing. She could talk, but she had an extremely soft voice. She had a sign language interpreter with her.
