Actors union president Fran Drescher on SAG-AFTRA's victory

Fran Drescher, president of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, spearheaded the negotiations that ended up winning huge concessions from corporations in Hollywood. Drescher talks with correspondent Tracy Smith about what studio bosses learned about her over the course of the strike - and what she learned about herself.

Hard-ball negotiations can be brutal, especially when you are dealing with penny-pinching execs whose greed and lust for power are legendary. Fran should be applauded for her tenacity, her strength in the face of men who have ice water in their veins.

I never thought way back in 1980 at the Frontier Drive- in San Diego that the actress in the comedy The Hollywood Knights who yelled the immortal words to Robert Wuhl” Turk did you bleep” would one day be President of The Screen Actors Guild!!! Fran is one incredibly talented and tough New Yorker.

I watched "The Nanny" but wasn't exactly a fan. I knew some of Fran Drescher's life stories regarding her husband and having cancer. When I found out she was the president of SAG-AFTRA, I was like, "Whaaat?!!" Then I heard her talk about what they were fighting for and how forcefully articulate she is. She was taking none of the bullsh*t from "The Man." This lady has chutzpah and I'm here for it all. I can now call myself a fan. Everyone should have someone like her in their corner when the going gets tough.

Why is it so darn difficult for companies to pay people for their hard work. I've watching some documentaries on film making for movies and tv shows, and the schedule for both are brutal. Everybody should be in on the riches made. Be Fair and Be Equal.

I kind of wish she doesn’t work again as an actress ‘cause I’d like to see what she could accomplish in Congress (and maybe even beyond). She’s shown that she’s on the working person’s side and that she CAN negotiate. If she ran for office, I’d vote for her. 👍👍👍🇺🇸

In order to avoid future strikes and poor workers compensations they should keep a close eye on those in charge of making important decisions so they don't alter their contracts for their benefit only.

The strike was worthless, not "powerful," bcz eventually the studios will use actors and voice-overs less and less and less bcz there is obviously less need for them in future media forms. It is a deal breaker and actors need to wake up to reality. Fran is right; they will be squeezed out becz their value is diminishing in the ledger of the studios.
