Bill loves kids. He said that playing the role of Pennywise was an absolutely heartbreaking experience and even asked if each kid was okay after every tale because he was so worried about him, even though he knew it wasn’t real. Heath Ledger was taking several different pain killer, sleeping pills, and then something else for something he had. The pain killers were uppers and the sleeping pills were downers. The other pills he was taking were uppers which caused his fanatic state and occasional breakouts that resulting in the uppers crashing his system and shutting him down. The drugs were OxyCotin and Hydrocodone which were in the pain relievers. He was in a hotel room when room service found him dead on the floor. Ledger passed out in around an hour ( give it take ) after he had just finished calling his sister who warned him to be careful. The last words he ever said were to his sister. “ Katie, Katie, I’m fine. I know what I’m doing. “

But the most heartwarming thing about the IT actor is that he asked if the kids were okay after each scene How do I already have more likes than ever on a comment😂

Fun Fact: the whole separate eye moving done by Bill Sarsgaard in IT wasn't CGI, Bill can move both of his independently.

And the worst part is they both did a terrific job. Heath Ledger is one of the best Joker actors and it’s a shame what happened. He will not be forgotten

I had the most horrific and intense night terrors that my family literally thought I was possessed and would pray 💀😭 pennywise haunted my dreams for years. So glad that I can watch IT now without him visiting me in my dreams bc it’s a good movie.

I was sick for a few weeks and got an hour of sleep every day and if lucky three hours of sleep at night. By time the 8th day started and still not sleeping, anxiety spiking extremely high and next to no sleep for a week going on two... Every breath was like inhaling glass shards and you feel like you are taking in almost no air. Pain medicine was my friend until I just went to the ER.

Heath Ledger didn’t die from the Joker. Heath had experienced Insomnia since he was a young teenager, and pain killer medication for a cut he got during filming and for a massive headache from lack of sleep, paired with his standard Insomnia-treating pills killer him. Again, the Joker had no part in it. Even his parents and siblings and friends could see that the Joker had no effect on Heath.

"IT" had given me a fear I had, had up until last year. I was around 10 when the movie had first came out and just seeing the trailer had me spooked to where I couldn't sleep without being under the covers.

There was someone on the set of the dark knight who said that heath ledgers death wasn’t because of the joker or filming of the dark knight he stated that heath had a blast and was having a lot of fun on set

In Heaths own words he said playing the joker was the most fun he ever had. His family said he locked himself away with every character he did. The journal this was normal for him. His friends and family said he had trouble sleeping since childhood. He had pneumonia and was filming a new movie around the time of his death. It was a mixture of sleeping pills, cold medicine, and painkillers.

Not nearly as disturbing as these, but I’ll add Ben Platt playing Evan Hansen in the musical Dear Evan Hansen. The titular character suffers from severe anxiety, so the actor was constantly having to portray that in his speech and movements. He developed Evan’s fidgeting and anxious habits over the four years of playing the role on Broadway. He had to have extensive therapy afterward in order to separate himself from the Evan’s mentality and tics. He lost around 30 pounds to more convincingly play the anxious teen role. To elaborate on him doing this on Broadway for YEARS and how much more that is than it sounds, I’m gonna draw from my own experiences a bit. I did high school theatre, and show week was the most draining, emotional, and stressful time of the semester. I didn’t realize beforehand just how mentally and physically exhausting it is just to act on stage. Every second your focus is on embodying that character- people are watching, every reaction and movement is rehearsed, you have to be aware of where you are now, where you will be next, and what cue to listen to for your next movement. Even in ensemble or minor roles- it takes a lot out of you. Theater acting is also dramatically different from movie acting. Rather than subtle/casual realistic actions, you have to be dramatic and large with your motions to convey what you want to the back of the audience. Now, imagine playing an emotional wreck of a character who is on the verge of a mental breakdown for a good bit of the 2.5 hour show. 8 times a week. For 4 years straight. That’s wild.

I hate that people say this is what led to his death, no it did not. He was an actor, it’s acting. He was very depressed because he was hooked on sleeping pills and tried to quit around the time he was playing the joker, when he realized his dependence on the drug he killed himself. And the fact that people say it’s because he played the joker is frankly not ok and minimizes what he could’ve been going through during that time and depression in general.
