Acura Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist (ACC & LKAS) review

This video is on how to use Acura Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keep Assist (LKAS) and why it sometimes feels like it's not working. The lane keep assist system will quickly disengage or deactivate after a short time if it doesn't sense a persons hand on the steering wheel. This video also shows how to determine when the Acura RDX LKAS detects lines on the road and is active.

What is the function of Road departure mitigation system? Acura watch comes with it and sound very similar to lane keep assist. Its been stated as a separate thing. Any clue?

@@farhanfahim3137 Hi Farhan, the road departure mitigation system gives a warning when it detects the driver veering off to the side past the line markers. The lane keep assist is the system that actually steers you back to the center of the lane.

THANK YOU for doing this! It confirmed my thoughts that the Acura/Honda LKAS is garbage. It's ping ponging you from L to R back and forth. It's not keeping you "centered" in the lane as with some cars like the Tesla, Volvo, Hyundai, Cadillac, etc.

RDX LKAS doesn’t really steer the vehicle when there’s a slight curve from my experience, it will go right outside of the lane. If you don’t manually adjust it, all it does is keep you centered it in the lane from my experience.

Hi I just wanted to point out that when the lines are not solid it’s because the cameras are not detecting the lanes. When they are solid it’s indicating that it has detected the lane and is thus keeping you centered (unless you signal, at which point the lines will disappear and the car will not provide steering input until the signal is switched back off) The “steering required” will come on/off periodically regardless to keep the driver engaged!

The Lane Keep Assist on my 22 Aura RDX works way better than the lane keep or the autonomous driving feature in my 19 BMW X4 did. The BMW would ping pong you between the lines in lane keep assist, and get you a DUI in autonomous driving! The Acura keeps you nicely in the lane. However, the BMW rated at 29 mpg from the 2 liter turbo would get 32-33 mpg at 75 mph. This dang RDX struggles to get 23 mpg at those speeds. Terrible mpg from the Acura. How does Honda… an economy car company from the beginning get such poor mileage from a 2022 2 liter turbo when BMW… a performance car company get 10 mpg better economy than Honda?

Just got this car, haven't tried ACC + LKAS yet but I'm pretty much just like you. Sure it's nice to have but I'm so dialled in when I drive that these features would only give me anxiety. It's nice to know that it's very reliable though.

On my 2020 TLX Advance I've noticed that LKAS only turns on (goes solid) above 45 Mph.

Would love to hear your thoughts on the ACC + LKAS of the RDX compared to the Pallisade's. Hyundai/Kia's system is widely regarded as some of the best in the industry, whereas Honda/Acura's are not. But it'd be great to hear first hand from someone that has occasion to use it on both platforms.

My two cents is that Hyundai is far superior to Acura/Honda’s ACC and LKAS. Hyundai keeps me centered with a lot less movement from side to side vs Honda. Hyundai will also go a lot longer before telling you to put your hands on the steering wheel. I understand that this is an assist function and not auto pilot, but it’s nice that Hyundai doesn’t constantly tell you to keep your hands on the steering wheel. The following is a small sample size but I also feel like Hyundai is smoother in slowing down when using ACC vs Honda.

Does the lka stay on even below high speeds lile 20 kmh? The kia system it stays on even when in stop and go traffic

I'm surprised you can smell the truck. In my 2002 acura, I can turn off the air intake from outside so it just recirculates air in the cabin, thereby eliminating outside odors.

2020 MDX here. I'm still not certain about the LKA display. I understand the solid bars indicate the system recognizes the markings and LKA will work, but, I've also found that even when the solid bars change to outlines that the LKA seems to continue to work. So ........

yes, it still works by assist keeping you in your lane until you completely turn everything off

Solid line means it can read the lane markings. Dotted lines means it can't reliably read the lane markings. That could be from poor markings, no/limited markings to read (road construction, side roads, unpaved roads, snow/ice, rain), or too many road markings like from tar snakes reflecting too much sun a certain angles.

Jump to 4:50 when he actually takes his hands off the wheel. This system is just like in my 2016 TLX except the low speed follow.

Has your RDX ever hit the brakes when a car was in the off ramp on a highway. I mean totally away from your front or even right side of the car? Also has your collision avoidance ever get.false positives. I personally hate when it just hits the brakes first instead of de throttling first..

I can see it still swing a little, still not that smooth. I find the Infiniti pro-pilot assist is much better, and few more safety more than Acura as well.

It's definitely more relaxing. What I don't get is; if you fall asleep, then it stops self driving!!!##$& Why not START self driving continuously with a loud beep to wake you?

Traffic Jam Assist is low speed LKAS with steering inputs.

"keeping you in the lane" does not mean anything. Does it keep you centered? Does it ping pong between the lane markings?

Compared to other ACC’s (adaptive cruise controls) I’ve tried like Hyundai and Nissan, Acura/Honda is inferior in terms of keeping you centered. It does move you back and forth between the lane markings but not as extreme as back and forth the whole time if that makes sense. Our Hyundai palisade is amazing in terms of how it keeps you right in the center of the lane using the ACC.

It is called Lane Keeping Assist. You are required to keep your hands on the wheel at all times. The system will alert you if you take your hands off the wheel or have a very light touch on the steering wheel. LKAS is more like a steering assist system that helps turn the wheel with way less effort in a curve compared to having it off.
