The beauty of this film is something else. The main character Roy doesn’t realize he’s just like his father obsessing over the unknown, obsessing over something he couldn’t see when he should be accepting that whats important is what you have right now in this moment, what made you feel alive, the unknown is the unknown, our future is unknown, what we do there is unknown. Obsession is what blinds you to see the beauty of what is known, that you have a life and you have a home and it’s the thing we can’t lose. Our trauma, our work, our obsessions they all pull us from what’s really right there in front of us the things that’s there to give us life.

Just finished watching Ad Astra, what a fantastic movie that was. Don't pay attention to the negative reviews. It's not the space movie I thought it would be, it was better. Not a ton of action but a fantastic psychological and emotional story that was very well acted. This film will eventually get the attention it deserves.

Ad Astra.. I believe the space and worlds destruction was the plot.... But the real underlying and poignant message was the relationship of the son, brad Pitts character and the father, Tommy lee jones. How the son got through life by working hard pushing hurt, anger abandonment feelings to one side. Finally through a leading up to a world disaster he has a chance to confront and deal with all this by finally finding his father. By meeting, talking and seeing what the father has done and become. The son was still able to reach down and forgive the father and telling him that he loved him. Then through the final powerful scene the father tussled with the son and telling him to let go, "let me go Roy"....The son with sadness did !....this set him free brought inner healing, love and reconciliation with life and wife.

@@antonioluismarcoburgos8117 A. No scientific accuracy at all? Wrong. Granted its basic astrophysics is a little off but and I make this case in point B. Why does it even matter if its scientifically accurate? It's artistic merit far outshines its lack of desire to be a documentary. Also you must have hated the later acts of films like Interstellar and 2001 if it means so much to you that they're "scientifically accurate"

Did they build their own separate bases, where do they live? Who funds them? How did they get there a d maintain their presence in the first place? 2- Brad got billions of miles directly to earth off the push of one nuclear explosion??

Probably true. I think also most people want to be entertained and have constant action/thrill. Movies that introspect and rely on understated acting are rare these days, which for me is a real shame. Those are the movies that really speak to me. Or, maybe they're not rare, but it is rare to find ones that pull it off well which I thought this movie did. To each their own.

Adam H The reason I strongly feel this way is look at it like this; when 2001: A Space Odyssey premiered back in 1968, 241- might’ve been more- people walked out of the theater one of them including Rock Hudson. 51 years later and it’s hailed as a masterpiece for its own right. I feel like this same effect will apply for Ad Astra. Critics loved it, while audiences hated it and I still can’t grasp that. Same for Blade Runner. When it first premiered, everyone didn’t like it. Now it’s also called a masterpiece. People revisit films that weren’t liked at the screening and it tends to be appreciated upon a second viewing, like a cult following. That’s what I think will happen with Ad Astra. They don’t love it, but later down the road, when people revisit it and give it a second chance, they will love it. I really loved every second and can’t wait to buy the Blu-ray 🙌
