These commercials should be aired so that the new generation can learn to be more responsible and have more respect towards others.

They were the best Ad Council classics in the 1980's.

Thank you . These are great. I observed that in the middle 90s, as corporate radio and television grew more power with more distribution and grew more greedy, the frequency of Ad Council play greatly reduced to almost nothing. I ran many of them frequently while in local radio for a time.
@jimfinigan16814 жыл бұрын
The FCC has a rule that commercial radio and television stations have to run a certain amount of PSAs. The stations usually run these between midnight and 5 AM.
@matthewkoch69373 жыл бұрын
My local radio station runs PSA's several times an hour, for topics like Al-Anon to child car safety and underage drinking.

I remember the Michael Jackson one at 1:33 very well. It was of course part of the Nancy Reagan 'Just Say No' Parents Movement. But the use of the song "Beat It" was actually very apropos when considering the peer pressure that sometimes leads to drunk driving in this commercial and in real life.

Interesting watch. The tone of these are much more direct (drinking/diving) and attack topics that seem to be unacceptable in today's age, such as the worship PSA.

*Kid:* _(after getting the joint pulled out of his grip and tossed away and seeing the guys he thought were his friends leave him behind)_ Hey, what is it with you guys? *Me:* If you use drugs, kid, then you’re definitely *not* going down the right path. You dig? *Kid:* Oh.. uh, yeah, I think so. But what’s with this “you dig” stuff, anyway? *Me:* It means “Are you hearing what I’m saying? Are you catching my drift?” It was heard during the 1960s.. OK? *Kid:* Oh, okay. *Me:* And by the way, if you offered me drugs, I would go all Clint Eastwood on you and tell you to take a hike, because if you got to die for something, kid.. a joint sure as heck ain’t it. _(The kid looks at me all surprised as I give him a cool smile before turning and walking away.)_ Personally, I like the kid who said “No, thanks” - as he knew what the right thing was, and he knew how to go after it as well. 🦅😎
