That's what I really love about Melissa; she has a gorgeous voice and it's amazing how she always switches from her gorgeous clean vocals to her growls and back.

I am glad you enjoyed Ad Infinitum and this song. Upside Down is from their third, and most recent, album called Chapter III: Downfall. And yes, Melissa uses her harsh vocals in the studio version. Ad Infinitum toured with Kamelot recently, but I was not able to see them when they played in Texas and nearby New Mexico. Very frustrating but I know there will be more opportunities. Edit: I forgot to mention that Melissa was inspired to learn the technique of harsh vocals by none other than Alissa White-Gluz.

There is something deeply wrong with your sound settings. It's like the sound sorce gets doubled but with a delay of some milliseconds. The result cancles out frequencies and in this case almost made the guitar vanish. I think what you are hearing individually might be fine but the end result is not. Sorry to nag, but I thought you should know.

I'm not sure, if the message is correct to NOT swim against the stream. "But tell me why you swim against the tides" - doesn't fit current society, because this is a world, where western mainstream is greed, hate, power-play and grabbing other peoples livelihoods. So it's those going against the grain, who have the idea of restrain and equality. The majority wants to grab the cash and carry the crown. If the selfish character is correctly described, then he can't be one who's swimming against the stream. Anyway, great song, great singer, no banger message.

My interpretation of the swim against the tides is not accepting one's mortality. The tide is the inevitability of aging and, ultimately, death.
