The fact of the matter is, he could go to a MMA or Muay Thai gym and challenge some fighters who don’t believe in this nonsense, but he won’t because a small part of his rational mind knows he’ll be dispatched within seconds. If he’s ever in the UK, I’d love to attend one of his seminars so I can expose this idiot!

All the comments that criticize these techniques for not being comparable to "MMA" or "street" styles of fighting really only demonstrate that they don't understand what is happening here at all. The purpose of the arts demonstrated in this video is not for "kicking butt" or winning an MMA fight or a street fight. It has a far more profound purpose in developing awareness, integration, function, and application of harmony between one's personal physical and mental realities, and beyond. Fighting is seriously the last thing on anyone's mind here, really. The martial aspect is for application of these interior principles in an outward manifestation to test whether one has actually begun to engage authentically with the internal energy and the communication of energy between bodies. It's not really for fighting. Fighting is practically irrelevant.

If we are talking about martial arts I would not go as far as saying "fighting is irrelevant" because that would be "too yin", and then you would perhaps talk about "healing arts" instead of "martial arts". But surely thinking that fighting sports purely based on external styles are the real deal would also be wrong because "too yang", not to mention that fighting sports have rules in the ring but martial arts were developed on the battlefield so it's a complete different scenario, like apples to oranges type of comparison.

Just a word ... to the doubters and the haters; of which there appear to be many. This vid is about cultivating an awareness and an ability to sense and move in relation to another ... in very specific ways - TaiChiChuan. Push Hands (ChiSao) is like singing scales; to increase range, fidelity, being on key, able to main a melodic line, how to harmonize seamlessly with another, and add real depth and richness to the expression. It is to “real fighting” what cross training is to Olympic Weightlifting Competition. As lifetime martial artist (Eastern, Western, traditional, modern, inner arts, outer arts, practical, and spiritual) ... ... allow me to submit to you that: If you want to get really good at fighting ... REAL fighting (not sport) ... ok ... guess what you gotta do? Fight. A lot. A whole lot. And there will be a heavy price to pay. MMA. Special Forces. SWAT. Kick Boxing. Bare knuckle ‘back alley Fight Club fights, yada, yada. Adam is addressing a way of organizing yourself internally so as to be able to “handle the situation” in front of you with calm and relaxed effectiveness ... regardless of technique. Whether violent, peaceful, or somewhere in between. It is about an ‘inside out’ process, rather than principally a study in ‘outer technique’. This gives life. Not just seeks to destroy it. Happy training.

Agree...20 years ago I was a Kung Fu beginner student and I met one of the most acomplished push hands competitors here in Argentina, when he knew I was a Kung Fu student he asked me to exchange techniques with him, we were at his school, and we started a friendly combat in front of His students, no strikes only push- pull... he wasn t able to do any of this techniques on me...none...and I was a simple beginner at that time...simply useless in any real fight...and Im a Taichi Instructor now...but thats the truth for me...so I don t teach push hands as a fighting technique , cause it desn 't work in real situation. @@ktkungfutaichi easy mate, who's selling? Reign it in a little. If you payed attention to my comment I said "not for combat". Why does a boxer hit a heavy bag? A speedball? Skip rope? Do any of them apply in combat, do they make them better at combat? I'll leave that for you to decide. I would say it doesn't make them "better at combat" but it definitely improves their power, speed, coordination and foot work (in sparring). So if a student is used to touching hands through push hands practice; no it doesn't prepare them for combat, but they'll have a better sensitivity of affecting the opponents structure in combat. Combat prepares you for combat plain and simple. All the best with your training and students ✌🏻

@ktkungfutaichi 4 жыл бұрын
@@deluxenz It's not the same...the training that a boxer, kickboxer do is for combat...all the training is focused to be better at that SPORT/ Martial art, but i'm talking of push hands techniques for self defence or combat, thats the difference Taichi practicioners couldnt apply these push hands stuff in any combat/Sparring situation, that s my point on "selling" these stuff as useful.

After all, no one is just going to stand there and let you repeatedly hit them in the head are they? ...or maybe what you're watching is a small part of a system of training required that consists of a much wider body of techniques and teaching? Maybe do 5 mins of searching under this guy and you'll see a bunch of videos with various students and others training in a much more free-form way, including punches, kicks, grabbing and grappling. But it's still 'just' training. You can only go so far in approximating the circumstances of an actual fight before you start rapidly running out of training partners. And with Tai-chi you won't see any Karate, kick-boxing or thai style sparring - it's not for competition.

It doesn't take much force to knock the wind out of someone or stun them by hitting them in sensitive areas, or redirect their momentum and imbalance to make them fall on their back or make them fall several feet away from you. MMA does work, and other western techniques such as western boxing and western wrestling do work...but they seem designed for athletes. You can stun someone by punching them in the chest but it helps if it you're really strong. Whereas in real martial arts we would aim for the solar plexus or liver, which takes a lot less strength, just five PSI of force or so. Different approach, can’t really compare. Chen style is more wrestling than anything else.
@ruebenandrews9914
@ruebenandrews9914 3 жыл бұрын
@@Zz7722zZ yeah I like the wrestling oriented form of chen style. Yang style seems very strike oriented. I suppose it comes down to what you prefer grappling or striking arts. I'm inclined towards grappling so its chen style I tend to favour. Striking especially in taichi yang style just makes me think of striking out profusely and using a lot of energy and jin thus depleting yourself in the process. Chen style is just get in close, lock, break and be done with it. Is that a fair comparison?
@Zz7722zZ
@Zz7722zZ 3 жыл бұрын
Rueben Andrews from my own experience Yang style is focused on controlling before striking, more of winning the fight at the hand fighting and positioning stage, while the strike is a follow up finishing move. Chen seems to be more comfortable at close wrestling and grappling range , while the finishing move is in the form of a takedown. Personally I like the subtle control demonstrated by Yang style masters, but I think in a real fight, it is more likely than not that it will come down to wrestling in the end. I’m a student of both styles so my own approach is likely to be a mix of the 2.
@ruebenandrews9914
@ruebenandrews9914 3 жыл бұрын
@@Zz7722zZ Good points Im clearly in favour of th ewrestling locking approach that is more repesentative of Chen Style. The other thing about Chen is that the weight usually 60-40% with weight staring between back and front whereas the difference is much larger in Yang with 0-100%. I think this weight percentage in chen style causes the weight to be more centered rather than more of a Full &Empty characteristic. I dont know but this more centered approach of chen style enables the opponent to come-to-you rather than having to strike out as per Yang style due to yang being more about full&empty. Does that make sense?

Obviously at the point he would have a high advantage over the and react with something new. And I'm not saying they should try to challenge all of the "what if" because it is just a drill. What I am saying is they should finish the drill at that point (like it seems the instructor does) and not keep flying off and away. The main reason I say it is because there is a problem with fake martial arts today and I think it is important to make sure people can distinguish between real and fake and not throw out something good because it looks bad and they don't know better

I don't understand the fight applications of any of these "martial arts". Bring in a ONE FC Middleweight champion and have a sparring contest. Whether it's 5 ancestors fist or Tai chi or white crane, it doesn't matter. All these masters would be knocked out or submitted in under 1 minute. And in my opinion, paying over $3,000 to fly over for this event is not worth the money if all you are learning is "internal" meditative styles. In that case, just take a meditation call or yoga class at home. All these styles are "arts" not martial. In all of Martial Man's videos, not a single "master" showed combat effectiveness of techniques against a trained fighter in real-time sparring who is not compliant in a "seminar setting".

There is a subtle subliminal influence he's using with hypnotic suggestive influence - he's "leading" them to co-operate. I want to believe , but until I see him do it against a fully non-compliant person in full-contact I just can't. One time Bruce Lee was on a television show with a famous Tai Chi expert and everyone was trying to push the guy down and they couldn't. When it came Bruce's turn he punched the guy in the face and knocked him out and said , "I don't push - I punch!"

Oh come on guy, Bruce lee seriously ?! He was just a little man, an actor who practiced winchun and fitness... He wasn't anything more And your story with the taichi master vs Bruce lee don't looks very real

There’s a difference between combat techniques and the study of martial arts ... this is the study within the limitations of the art. Yes against a fully skilled fighter, forget MMA, But MMA crossed with military. Trained to kill. Would this work as what’s intended, doubt it... but as a skill to transfer energy and offset balance... this guy is good at it,
