This Tosh came in as a No POST, let's look at how to approach this, starting from the easy fixes, then progressing to the more technical solutions. Spoilers below:
BIOS chip was corrupted, and we reprogrammed it. Handy that I just did a big video about BIOS programming 👌

Not a home computer repair story but they weren't around when this happened... The cleaning reminded me of a repair I did back in the early 1980s to a CRT television. It was in a house with such heavy smokers that the tar/nicotine had built up on the back of the CRT causing severe arcing from the EHT. Having removed the nicotine from the back of the tube which stopped the arcing, I noticed the tar/nicotine had also covered the outside of the wooden case. Being kind I decided to clean it off using foam cleaner making it look much better and more pleasant to touch. However, when I returned the TV to the customer the change in colour from dark to light brown was so drastic they claimed the TV I had returned was not theirs and that I had swapped it for another one!!!!!!!! It took a LOT of convincing to persuade them it was theirs. After that I didn't have the heart to tell them that the BLUE gun on the CRT had no emission and that all they were seeing was RED/GREEN. The blue component of the picture is so small anyway and it had deteriorated over time so they didn't notice and were quite happy watching it that way ..... or perhaps their glasses were also covered in tar/nicotine and they couldn't see it :-)

Nice repair, I would always test power rails before doing the bios, You still could get fan spin if the CPU V core is missing or dead CPU, I hate it when I get laptops and they messed with the bios and it was a power rail, I had a Lenovo which came in because of a failed bios update, the laptop was completely dead no power, Reprogram the EC Chip (build in eeprom) and it worked. Usually I would check to see if the charging lights comes on, Normally that would indicate a good EC eeprom file but there was no charging light because of the corrupted EC eeprom, just a quick way to test the EC eeprom. 👍 Super IO term comes from the old desktop boards.

At least with this design, you don't have to take the motherboard out in order to replace the thermal paste and clean out the fan... whilst I do have a Packard Bell that is accessible by just the rear panels, it is so much better than my old overheating Acer which needed the motherboard to come out. I didn't bother with it, and just sold it on.

It has better performance 😁 it performed better than thermal grizzly kryonaut in my tests and really impressed me not to mention that it does not scratch surfaces comparing to kryo that it looks like the thermal paste is sanding the radiator 🤦🏻‍♂️ very dissapointed of kryonaut. Arctic is the best ❄️💧 and lasts longer too

My L655 has held up wonderfully. Noticed you could socket a cpu in it a year or so ago and bought a 560m to upgrade it with. Was the p6200. Only thing I hate about it is that the cmos battery isn't easily accessable. Have to take the whole motherboard out. Then it isn't even the standard cr2032. Some thicker smaller cell.

I'd preferred seing that fix failing so we had a longer video 😂🙈. But yes, good way of ending a work week! Nice job! Do we know why that BIOS failed? Maybe some cosmic rays hitting it and changing a bit... Not joking, it's a very cool science fact but dangerous if it happens to critical electronics like it happened to a plane once that almost crashed (flight QF72) "[...]However, a fraction of these particles carry enough energy to interfere with the operation of microelectronic circuitry. When they interact with integrated circuits, they may alter individual bits of data stored in memory. This is called a single-event upset or SEU."

Nice video! Thanks! Do you have any experience modifying BIOS .bin files such as the ME section and replacing the serial number of the machine in it? I'm just curious if you find a dump bios .bin file, will it work without it? It's becoming more and more difficult to find BIOS .bin files on the manufacturer's website these days and the only way of updating BIOS is from within Windows via an .exe file. I know you can extract it but the files you get have different extensions and usually none of them is a .bin file.

Every computer repair person has their own order in which they do checks. Nobody should complain about the specific order. I myself choose a different checklist order and we usually come to get to PC issue at some point. I clean the fans and repaste the heatsink on every computer that I repair (if possible), to others such a detailed cleaning is a waste of time. You do good work, pay no attention to the naysayers.
