It's Adam Koralik here and today we're discussing as many random iterations and versions of every single Sega console that I possibly could, minus the ones appearing in this video: • Every Sega Console Rec...
This video is part of the official Go Sega 60th Anniversary campaign. This content is NOT sponsored, Sega asked me if I'd be willing to do it, and I was more than happy to get involved.
This will include things like the Sega Nomad, Genesis 3, Master System II, Saturn model 2, Pioneer Laseractive, Sega CDX, Wondermega, JVC X-Eye, Divers 2000 Dreamcast, and more!
This will not include prototypes like the Neptune or Pluto.
Happy 60th Anniversary to Sega!

The Master System II was quite common in Australia. We got the RF version, though interestingly there's a varient of the Master System II that has a dedicated RGB compatible AV port in place of the usual RF port. Everybody wants that model!

Great video. There is also the Pioneer SEED TV from 1983. Similar to Laser Active, this TV has modules and one of these is the game module that comes with the Sega SG-1000. The North American version came out in 1985 but without the SG-1000 module, since the console was not launched in the USA. But interestingly in the catalog it showed the design of a console that I particularly find similar to the Atari 400.

While it wouldn't apply to this video, one thing I hardly see people mention, is the kids gear. It was a late revision of the game gear in japan, marketed to kids as one could imagine- It has a slightly different housing design, and with art of akira yuki from virtua fighter across the front. A number of game gear games from that point were also branded as kids gear games too. But tend to be very expensive.

One rare variant I remember seeing in EGM was a solid gold Game Gear? I just googled it recently and there are pictures of the magazine scan so you can see what that system looked like. I remember being in highschool and looking at a sale paper for the Saturn, gettihbexcitd because it had a cartridge slot. Then complete disappointment that it was not able to play genesis games. I was disappointed because I knew that the console would be expensive, and I didn't want to leave my games behind, and I knew I would only get like two or three games a year barring rentals and yard sale finds. So I saw that and "dude I get to keep my games and have these new games too." And the controller looked like a neat update to the genesis controller. Such a wasted opportunity. Similarly I wish the dreamcast could play dvd. Even if the dreamcast games were initially on gdrom drives having out of the box dvd support would have given it greater mind share. Still would have had the limits of the processor and memory compared to ps2, but getting the dreamcast out as a dvd drive would maybe have made that little difference, and games swapping over to loading from dvds would have given developers that much more space to work with.

I, too, wish Sega had made the Saturn backward-compatible with Genesis, 32X, and Sega CD games. That would have made me want it more. Instead, I had to settle for a Genesis, N64, and PS1 as a kid. Only three years ago did I finally buy a Saturn at a flea market.

The Master System II was huge in Brazil, but it was rebranded as Master System 3 because the name Master System II was attributed to a revised Master System.
