This week we look at the possibilities of adapting vintage lenses to the Nikon Zf and we head out in to the snowy Maine wilderness to make some landscape photographs with the Nikon Zf and adapted lenses too! Vintage glass is awesome and using it on modern mirrorless cameras like the Nikon Zf is an absolute joy! Come join me for some great discussion and some amazing landscape photography.

Nice neighborhood! Great vid & photos. Don't get me wrong. Would love to see the ZF sell for $1200. but I think it is appropriately priced for this day & age for all it offers. Liked the vid & the killer opening vid photo so I subbed & will try & watch another vid or 2!

Thank you so much for the kind words! Yes, we all wish it was less expensive but as you say, its worth the cost of entry. Thanks for watching and I hope you'll be a regular!

You look like you were born for this!! And you have way too much expertise to just keep it all to yourself. While I don't know much about vintage lenses, my husband owns a few and is eager to try them with his new Zf (when he can get his hands on it...mine hasn't been delivered yet so I'm using it). Thanks for another great and instructional video. The snowy scenes are super pretty especially for a Florida girl. Keep the videos coming. I'm going to share this on my Facebook page since many of my friends probably have vintage lenses. I haven't seen any videos on using vintage lenses with the new Zf so I imagine this might be well-received. The images are stunning! Thank you so much.

June, you are too kind. I love that you keep coming over and checking out what I am up to. Thank you so much for that. I think by next winter I will be setting up a workshop up here in the winter and would love to have you and your husband attend! I will keep you informed of the situation.

I come here not for the Nikon mumbo jumbo, sorry, it all just goes over my head. I come for the inspiration. Those shots you got, basically from your back door were amazingly inspiring. What I got from your video is to get off of my butt when when most people just want to stay home and curl up by the fire or TV. Don't take a hundred photos, stay focused on what you are searching for and go from there. Think it through, get in the moment. Right now I have similar weather. I'm about to step out the door and head over to our local 3 mile walking path here in Warwick, RI. with my old Sony A77 and my go to lens Tamron 16 - 300 and see what I come back with. And a tripod of course.

The Z mount is so versatile. I hope Nikon will release a medium format sensor one day just so all these old MF lenses can be adapted

I would love that but somehow I just don't see them doing that. The advantages of full frame are so great and with the Nikon 45.6 MP sensor being so good (as good as 50 MP fuji sensors) I just don't think Nikon would make any money on it. We can dream though! Thanks for watching!

If your would like to change views let me know, i just picked up a new snow blower and christened it the day before yesterday, in the Hudson valley of New York state we also got about ten inches, two days later it poured and the snow she gone. Nice video. I have the Nikon ZF, Z6Ii and Zfc with some Nikon, Viltrox and Voightlander glass. This completes my collection of Pentax, Panasonic, Olympus Fujifilm cameras and glass, no Canon or Sony,.

Deal! I love the Hudson valley. Its so beautiful down there. You have lots and lots of wilderness to photograph there! And, when you aren't out photographing you can drive over to Storm King and check out some amazing sculpture! Like I said, I just love it over there.

I just bought the Nikon Zf. My previous Nikon equip is from the 80s. Does anyone know if I can use the Nikon FTZ ii adapter, between my Zf camera, and my old Nikkor 180mm F2.8 (the very first autofocus edition with the crappy plastic ring from 1986)? Thanks for any help, as my mind is still stuck in the old film days and this Z-stuff is very new to me.

If that lens is the D series, I don't think it will autofocus because it requires a screw drive motor from DSLRs (except the d3000 and d5000 models). It's too bad because there are some nice D series glass. But you will still be able to mount it to the adapter but you'll have to manually focus. I can't remember if those lenses had aperture rings or not so if they don't, I'm not sure how the aperture would work I also just got the ZF and love using the z mount voightlander lenses on it. Unlike the Nikon Z lenses, the voightlander lenses have aperture rings. But they are manual focus only. But the ZF makes manual focus very easy.

So, if it is the ED IF AF-D then no, you will not be able to autofocus. I believe since you said it was from 86, then it is the older D series without a motor. The only lenses from the F mount line that will autofocus are the G lenses. The aperture will work perfectly, whether you adjust it in the camera or on the lens. That is an awesome lens I have to say.

@@ThomasPetzwinkler Thanks for the info. I can live without AF. I think I'll order that adapter and give it a go.
