This is BY FAR the best and simplest tutorial for closing the binding! You’re slow enough, hands are out of the way and very great and simple instructions! Bravo! Saved to my library! THANK YOU!!

I totally agree. Glad I found you. For bigger quilts I use the binding tool, but it doesn’t work on smaller quilts.

I used this method, and it came out great! Thanks.

I have been quilting for about 5 years now and NO ONE has ever explained this as well. Prior to this video it was always a hit and miss with my binding regardless of what technique or tool I used. Thank you very much.

I second Valerie Roland! The problem with some instructors is that they skip important instructions like "don't twist your binding" a little thing however very important. I can't tell you how many times I've redone the step because no one mentions "Don't twist your binding". Also, placing your project so as the edge faces you. Thanks so very much Jody, you have saved me hours.😊

Thank you! So much easier than a binding tool for me. I used a 2” binding strip and initial 2” mark for overlap. Now I can adjust for whatever binding strip size I want.

I watch a lot of quilting tutorials. But this has been the most helpful so far. I've never left a comment on any website but I feel compelled to express my appreciation. It all makes so much sense when you explain!!! I am an advanced beginner, I feel okay about my skills thus far except for joining the ends of binding. My computer will have your video playing on my table as I complete the binding on my next several projects. A thousand thank yous!!!

I've seen a lot of binding videos on KZfaq, but when I saw this one it was as though the sky opened up and angels sang. I recently completed a quilt and used this method. I honestly can't even remember on which side I did this technique because it all blends so well. I never cared for the straight up & down stitch, and I knew diagonal was good overall. On my first try, it came out perfect.

Thank you thank you thank you!!!!! I knew there was a better way to join my binding ends. A good way to check you’ve done it right is to put two small pins along the diagonal line you’ve marked with your pencil, then refold the binding in half to check if it lays right and isn’t twisted.

So confused on the 2.5 inches wide . I totally messed up my whole binding watching this video.
@allpeoplequilt Жыл бұрын
Hi Heidi - I'm sorry it was confusing. Our binding is 2.5" wide so we overlapped the strips 2.5". If your binding is a different size, you would overlap by the width of your original binding strip before folding. I hope that helps!
@lpetzing3 жыл бұрын
It’s hard to see what she’s doing because the colors are so similar. Also hard to tell the front from the back of the fabric.

Great tutorial but it should be pointed out that the measurement of the overlap is the total width of the binding strip when not folded in half. IMO she didn’t explicitly explain the. It would be easy to take her instruction as the amount of overlap is the width of the binding tape when folded in half. Just a tip for us newbies! 😀
@allpeoplequilt3 жыл бұрын
Great point! Sorry that wasn't clear, but yes, the overlap is equal to the width of your binding strip (most commonly 2.5").
