Thank you so much!!! You were super helpful and informative. I learned a lot AND I recharged my system, all thanks to you!! I really appreciate it! You saved me a ton of money!! People have been over charging me, just to add refrigerant and my ac would be back HOT again. Come to find out, someone forgot to put my cap back on! So, I went to autozone and got spare caps for like $4. I'm grateful you made this video and super happy I was able to do it myself! Hopefully I won't have to worry about that anymore, fingers crossed! Thanks again!

Absolutely loved this video... I can do this now all by myself and not worry.... Picked up a "98 today as a second car and it needs a little "TLC" like the a/c recharge...thank you so much for the video and your time to make it!!! Didn't get bored not once.

UPDATE: A year later I was again needing more refrigerant. This time I used a DUST OFF product, purchased from Walmart for less than $6 per can. It actually performed much better than the R134. I used a side-tap to puncture the can. And, I vacuumed out all the R134 before making the switch. There are other videos on KZfaq that show how to do it. I am not recommending you violate manufacturer's specs. Just saying the Dust Off has been great for the past two seasons. Runs at least 10% colder than R134. If you don't understand the basics of A/C systems, don't do it.

When checking my system the gauge was fluctuating within the green range. Thought it might be full despite not being very cold. After watching your video, like you, I put more in till the gauge was steady towards the upper end of the green and it's blowing ice cubes now! Thanks.

Thank you for putting this out in the internet! I have a 1999 Explorer and you made it extremely to follow and it was such an easy process. Now, do you have any suggestion on how to open a door that doesn't open from the outside or inside? 😁
@kirkprell44933 жыл бұрын
The outside handle is likely popped off inside the door and it won't open from inside because the child safety lock is on.

Always wear hand and eye protection when dealing with these kinds of fluids ..no matter if it’s freezing outside or 85 degrees outside..cover your skin and eyes..the time and effort to protect your self is nothing compared to becoming injured if exposed to this Freon

The high and low charge port Schrader valves go bad all the time on this model. Spray soapy water on ports and see if they bubble. The whole port unscrew and can be changed on both the high and low port. Advance auto sells kit for 10 bucks. Also the evaporator/accumulator always gets rust pin holes. And I would change that as well.
@iamkazie94016 жыл бұрын
johnny rizzo I have a 1998 explorer and every summer here in Chicago I have to add a can of 134 which is the best way to check both high and low valves should I charge system first then run ac and while ac on spray the soapy water ?

Two things I have experienced from dealing with A/C is if the clutch clicks on an off i need to use a Dryer product in the system. One more thing if you loose coolant you always loose oil make sure your oil is adequate or the compressor will not last long.
@daviddeutscher35576 жыл бұрын
good tip
@EarlGuyton4256 жыл бұрын
You did this good brother. For the record the part that loos lie a skinny radiator in front of the radiator is the condenser core. The low side where you charged your system that has the cylinder type part is the dryer unit. And the evaporator core on these looks lie a heater core and is mounted under the dash. Being you take your time and did this so well I feel you deserve to now the names of these parts. Huggs from your brother in Christ Earl

I got a 96, and it stopped blowing cold air. Checking everything including the unit itself, it seems the compressor just ran out of oil. I just ordered that A/C Pro kit off Amazon and now I just gotta wait and boil with nothing but the fan until it arrives and I can use it.
@Justanothermember75 жыл бұрын
Did you recharge your explorer's system? I'm very hesitant to use this method of a/c recharging, so much could go wrong! It doesn't help that I have a black explorer in the desert 😂. Honestly thinking about using this though..
@davidcornell44635 жыл бұрын
@@Justanothermember7 It was my least expensive option and it was all I needed. You could use the 2 gauge method just to play it safe, but that's probably another $100 or so. These Explorer parts and tools ain't cheap if they're made right.

The refrigerant is pretty standard r134a. But the AC Pro Kit comes with some special additive that they claim helps to seal tiny leaks in like gaskets and such. In any case, the 1998 Ford Explorer that I just re-filled took the ENTIRE AC Pro Kit without any problems. And then it was still only showing about 10oclock on the gauge. So I went to AutoZone and picked up the AutoZone r134a refrigerant refill can. It has the same threading as the AC Pro Kit gauge. But it presumably doesn't have the sealing additive. It was a much smaller can for about $14. So all in all, I paid about $40 for the AC Pro Kit with gauge/hose. And another $14 for a non-AC Pro brand generic (AutoZone brand) for a smaller can to go with it. The two together took me to about 1oclock on the gauge -- which is about right for it being near 90degrees outside today. And the vehicle was completely empty of refrigerant and blowing air that wasn't the least bit cold at all. Now it's nice and frigid again. =] The nice thing is -- Now that I have the hose and gauge, I will only ever need to get the cheaper cans without the hose.

@daviddeutscher35576 жыл бұрын
Probably would have been smarter to bleed the feed line. But, I had a bit of trouble seating the connector; and I doubt there was much air left in line. Plus, these cans don't come with bleeder valves.

24 minutes and 25 seconds of video with 24 minutes of it is you just yammering along about nothing. I don't mean to sound mean but JHTDC get to what we're here to see. I don't need instruction on how to take the binders off the can. I think I'm savvy enough to figure it out.

Studa if you didn't want to watch a 24 minute video, you should of moved on. You can tell how long the video are before you watch them. I think he did great for the people that aren't as smart as you think you are, after all you did watch the whole video to just complain about it, so your'e not that smart. Go look for your 2 minute video else where, David you did great!!!
