How do you do this beautiful desaturated black look? I am always trying to figure out how to do it but it NEVER looks right. Yours is gorgeous

+ADepressedwhale Thanks buddy glad you liked it. Unfortunately Black and White isn't really my strong suit but as a rule I never 'desperate' an image and I always go to Image->Adjustments->Black and White… and play with tone in there.

+Jake Hicks I actually went and watched your "Reducing Contrast and Color Toning Shadows" tutorial and that gave me the information I was looking for, the way you use the curve adjustment to lift the shadows a bit. You're videos are very good and your photography is incredible, this channel was a good find. Keep up the awesome work man!

Dude, just use smart layers and record an action. You can then adjust the noise and blur to suit.

You can certainly do that and in fact you can skip all this entirely and do it in Lightroom very convincingly too. This video is somehow 7 years old now :O I should do an update maybe.

Heya Robin thank you, and regarding how I took the shot, if you're referring to the blurred effect that's all done in camera using a 'Lensbaby' composer pro lens. No blurring was added in Photoshop.
