I love this video! I'm a beginner to wood burning. You're work is beautiful! I love the feathers with or without color, for me as an artist, color is a must, so the colored feathers would be my favorite of the two. Please keep your videos coming! 🥰

They turned out beautifully! I do like color on woodburnings as long as it doesn't take away from the actual burning and enhances it. IMO the color enhances the feathers.

I like to decorate wooden boxes, so much of my work consists of designs, borders, etc rather than detailed pictures. I often employ a "heavy-handed" technique that gives a more 3D presentation, and I almost always add some color. I particularly like to use enamel colors on the unburnt areas, and stains are interesting because they take differently on various types of burns. Your work showed me that I could be adding color to intricate pieces and not losing the burned details. Thanks a lot, very nice work!

Until recently I have not ever added color to my wood burnings. I decided to add color recently and I didn't like the way it came out. I went in search of what I did wrong and what I should be using to add a little color to my wood burnings. Your video gave me a little perspective. Thank you.

Very beautiful. I’ve used acrylic paint, ink from pens nmarkers, colored pencils and crayons are my favorite because of the blending effects. I’m about to do a Jewry box top of a drawing I did over 30 years ago. I love mixing the bold contrast of the wood burning with a slash of color to make it pop.

I like bith, honestly, I don't color burnings because they look so great without it and the coloring covers it up so much, it almost seems like you should just draw it instead. Looks great though! :)
@WildwoodStudio
@WildwoodStudio 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks :) I always felt that way too. I don't want my burnings to just become paintings because I think that defeats the purpose, So I try to make sure you can still see the burning under the colour, but sometimes I don't succeed :) Colouring a burning is always a risk cause you could make it worse rather than better lol

I have been drawing for most of my life and just got into wood burning a couple days ago and absolutely love it and one of the reasons is the natural color of the wood and the burn. Maybe I can stain and finish in the end but the main reason why I love it is the natural color.

As someone who has done pyrography Art for 5 yrs now, I personally like adding colours sometimes, however, I notice a few people I`ve asked along the way about adding colours to pyrography don`t like colour added. They prefer the picture done in pyrography left original. They`ve pointed out to me that if they wanted a picture done with colour they might as well have the whole thing done in colour pencils or paint only, so why colour up work done in pyrography, that`s a few opinions from customers anyway. I suppose it's all a matter of personal preference when it comes down to it. It's the same with Photographs, some people prefer colour ones others would prefer certain photos in B&W.
@WildwoodStudio
@WildwoodStudio Жыл бұрын
Yeah I totally agree. I have seen lots of wood burnings with colour and though “why not just make a painting?” And I do really like the look of a burning when it’s left natural. That being said, I’ve warmed up to colour a bit and have been adding it to some more of my burnings lately. I feel like if you don’t completely cover the burning it gives the picture some really nice depth, under the colour, and burnings with colour integrate with unfinished wood differently than just paint. It’s definitely a case of personal preference though. Thanks for your comment :)

Thank you! :) For sealing in the colour I use Varathane Diamond wood finish, it’s water based and doesn’t yellow. The most important thing is to use a spray on finish because a brush on finish would smudge the colours. And I bought a rotary tool to try that but I haven’t used it yet lol Sorry to hear about your hands, I know it’s common to get arthritis with psoriasis, so I hope that doesn’t happen too soon for me. Nice to hear you can still make art though :) If you’d like to send me a picture you can send me a message on my Facebook page or Instagram :)

Why do kids need brand new everything every year?! I continue to find entire boxes of color pencils & crayons that have barely been used. Very nice either way. There are soo many awesome watercolor companies these days. I also have a little travel set i really like by Sakura Koi but I don't think they make it anymore. Typically I like holbein, Rembrandt talens, and M. Graham. Also there's a color by Daniel Smith called Buff Titanium. Gives a cool aged look to the paper and it's also sold as a powder for that aged look I digress for a living😜

@WildwoodStudio
@WildwoodStudio 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment 😊 do you mean like using wood stains to add to the shading? Or just more natural colours of pencil crayons and paints? I’ve been thinking about doing a video like that :) I always worry that if I add shading with natural coloured pencils/paints afterwards, it will be hard for people to tell what’s burned and what’s not, or that I will end up relying on it to fix mistakes 😝 but I know it can look really beautiful and add a lot of depth. If you want to see an artist who does that, I think Minisa adds coloured pencils to a lot of her burnings :)

I did my first woodburn color on a mortal kombat logo I used stain..I'm a beginner. It looks decent. I prefer both color and natural shading

Nice! I’ve done colour using stain before :) I like the look of it but I didn’t want to buy a new stain every time I want a different colour.

I think it is beautiful with the colour. Good without it too but prefer colour.
