I too have used grape stalks for very effective trees. The stems of the bunch don't take long to dry out and can be gently stressed into whatever shape you want while they are drying. The bits where the grape joins the stem are useful for attaching a lump of foliage to, as you begin building your foliage coverage.

Looking good. You obviously have a very steady hand to allow you to paint the station name. I usually print out mine on the computer. I lay it out, select the font and fill colours I want and print it out on paper in the reduced size I want. I usually start with a 10 size font using Ariel and Ariel Bold but other fonts can be used depending on the sign you are trying to replicate. Pictures can also be added during makeup. I seal the paper sign on both sides with photo varnish before glueing it to the prepared surface where the sign is to be mounted.

I also purchased some small conifers which are rather ordinary but useful for viewing from a distance but if you spray them with a spray adhesive and roll them in fine flock, they make a very acceptable poplar style tree.

For a false PERSPECTIVE use LARGE TREES at the FRONT with GRADUATED SMALLER TREES BEHIND the BIG TREES. Also, as an ex VW BEETLE SPRAYER, when spraying anything do the largest area1st and do it in one sweep taking your finger off the spray button when you have gone past. Move at a decent speed so as not to concentrate too much in one area, but not too slow that you apply too much. If your 1st paint went from left to right to do the next go Left to Right making sure you overlap your spray "MIST" onto your 1st sprayed area as I mentioned above and vice versa, same with smaller bits, don't do a quick spray then another, just do them in the same manner as the your first and subsequent Long areas. Well done though, the Big Trees look the dogs. T =)

Excellent tree coverage. the lichin under the trees really makes them blend in. The station staff in grey looks great although we know that it should be black but it would weather. One criticism. the lamp hut as built are lmr (ex LMS). To make them truly WR or GWR the you must lose the ventilators on top as GWR didn't have them. Also the doors of the huts would probably be purple/brown and the lower parts of the huts would be either dark stone or black ( about six inches from the base). Hope this helps. Regards, Paul.

Those trees look great - but I was thinking that you could put one or two trunks in there to suggest fallen trees, especially if there are Beech trees, which are notorious for suddenly just collapsing under their own weight. (so never camp under Beech trees). what was the little 0-6-0 engine near the beginning? I liked the look of that. Thanks for sharing! Those lamp hut kits come with the odd corrugated drums. These were specifically for paraffin/kerosene, which was the fuel for the lamps.

SEMAPHORE SIGNALLING TIPS. There are very complex rules for the actual positioning of signals. One of the fundamental rules for signal positioning is called "Sighting". i.e Can the driver see the signal from a distance, in relation to the maximum permitted speed of that line. This means the actual height of a signal has to take into consideration problems such as platform canopies and footbridges, which can obstruct the drivers view ! The semaphore signals for a passenger two track line, (as per your layout) would have been worked under what is called "Absolute Block" rules. Which means the BLOCK is ABSOLUTE. In other words only ONE train is allowed on each of the two tracks (Known as "Running Lines") at any time in the WHOLE AREA covered by that signal box, REGARDLESS of how many signals the box controlled !!! The MINIMUM requirement for an "Absolute Block" Post in signals, is a DISTANT followed by a HOME followed by a STARTER on each Running Line. The DISTANT is the most important signal and usually positioned about 0.5 to 1.0 miles before the box, dependent on the maximum permitted "Line Speed". The DISTANT tells an approaching train driver the situation throughout the Block now being entered. If at CLEAR this tells the Driver ALL following stop signals (the Homes & Starters) are CLEAR. If the DISTANT is at CAUTION, this tells the Driver one or more of the stop signals in this BLOCK is at DANGER. So he must bring his train under control and be prepared to STOP. The STOP signals positioned before the signalbox is passed are known as HOME signals. Those positioned beyond the signalbox are known as STARTER signals. The last STARTER signal provided is also known as the BLOCK signal, because this signal cannot be physically set to CLEAR, until the next signalbox along the line has given an electro-mechaical release. This being one of the most important safety features of the ABSOLUTE BLOCK system, so preventing more than ONE train being on any Running Line within the area covered by a signalbox !!!! This signalling system does allow a Goods train or even an ECS train to be shunted into sidings, so it is NO longer on a Running Line. Once this train is locked away, then it is possible to allow another train to enter the Block on an unoccupied Running Line. DAPOL SIGNALS ! The Dapol GWR lower quadrant signal, you have installed, being a commercial ready made product cannot take into consideration the problems of sighting and therefore its height. Further the Dapol wiring system provided, does not allow for the signal to be "interlocked" with other signals & points (as it has to be in real life), or even allow for a reliable method of displaying on a control panel, what position the signal is in, possibly using LED's !!! Further as you have "buried" the signal baseplate in ballast, this will present a problem, as the mechanisms in these models are notoriously unreliable, so extracting the model for maintenance or replacement will mean digging up the ballast !!! Another warning: DO NOT screw up the plastic nut under the baseboard more than finger tight, or it will break the whole mechanism away from the baseplate !!! LAMP HUTS. Lamp huts ! The Wills Kit model you have is a GWR Corrugated Iron design dating from the 1920's, so even in BR days was normally painted GWR cream with GWR red oxide coloured fittings. Lamp Huts were to store the lamp oil, paraffin, spare signal lamps, & other inflammables required around a station. This model design is of a type found on platforms, so if weirdly mounted at the track side would require a concrete base to resist the building rusting away ! Only ONE lamp hut was normally present at smaller stations ! Further there are specialised railway paint ranges that provide exact (British) railway colours, such as Phoenix Precision Paints, Chelmsford Essex, & "Howes" of Oxford who produce the "Railmatch" range, both have websites !!!!!!!! Happy Modelling.
