Let's improve the protection and usability of our rock sliders by adding a small step! This is a great project for folks that are brand new to metal fabrication and you don't need advanced fabrication tools or experience to build these. Any welder, grinder and pipe bender (even the HF pipe kinker) is all that is necessary to build a great set of rock sliders. If you want to spice it up with a dimple die, these can be found at Swag Off-Road, sold in single die or even Ebay! Unlock a little creativity and build one of a kind parts for your 4x4! Rocker protection is a great way to start!

Always interesting seeing other perspectives on armor. I would never be worried about/never seen getting a tree stuck between tire and slider (being in the desert) but my kickout sliders have pushed me away from walls and rocks loads of times, I would never not have a kickout for the wheeling I do. PNW wheeling is so different than the Utah desert.

Well crap now I want to take my sliders that are exactly like the old classics from 15 years ago with the three center supports and add some webbing to them. I had been using some traction tape but that stuff wears and looks like crap after a season. With two young kids and a wife riding around in my TJ with me getting them in and out safely is important. This was awesome and thanks for inspiring a beginning fabricator!
@banzaiib

thanks! Your shots have solidified the design i'm going for. I snagged a flux core welder and have been practicing on 1/8 plate. Just bought a bunch of 1018 dom and square tube and am starting on the build for my '19 ranger. The FCAW welder doesn't make particularly pretty welds (can't stack dimes because of the flux), but i'm making some strong stringers and will just grind smooth anything too ugly :)

Looks fantastic. We had the same HF bender in our shop without the power assist (we added length to the handle) and it was definitely a workout. I tend to overbuild so the only thing I would have done different is add pieces of tubing at either end of the plate for added bracing (though admittedly, it wouldn't have looked as good).

Hey, to combat the compromise of going with the traditional dimple direction, instead of inverted for more traction, after paint, you could "Tread" the dimpled center section with grip tape!! You get the look,And traction!! Awesome videos man, keep up the good work!!

Another great video 👍Coming from ATV's I love "tree kickers". I've been in situations where I would have bent the rear axle, or much worse, from sliding into or grazing trees. I get how 4x4's are different, but I think you can build them right if you don't plan on changing tire size or suspension. I really want to build a set but I already have the 2x4 mod on my XJ, and I don't know how to incorporate them into the 2x4s and fenders...

Working hard to get back and started my youtube channel 10mo ago...would love to get back to fabbin...for now I'll watch you do it. I used to fabricate all custom forced induction systems, headers, intake mani's, etc. Hard work, but sick when it's done.
