I bought 8 250 watt solar panels used in Portland Oregon for $85 each! Craigslist. I will hook this up with a MPPT controller, that can accept up to 150 volts or 300 volts DC into the controller, and then charge a 12 volt battery. I will hook this up at my house to a solar system and 48 volt battery. Then run a ductless heat pump on 120 volts, with zero power from the grid! On another fifth wheel, I wired the panels for 24 volts, then connected to a 30 amp MPPT controller, that charges his 12 volt battery fine, with the maximum possible amperage to the battery, and the least amount of voltage loss due to the higher than normal voltage incoming from the solar panels. His solar prep system included a pair of #8 wires to the roof. I had to cut a hole into the roof, to find the wires, and then put a raintight outlet over the hole I created, then put one of the 4 solar panels over the top of that box, so no rain will ever hit that box!

Well documented and great price. One question though, you installed the 300watt, but I noticed on the price sheet the second panel for 1/2 the wattage was the same cost as your 300watt. Is there a quality or performance difference that drives up the cost?

I think it is just brand actually. I had the same thought when I noticed that as well. I did some research on the brand we bought and found all good reviews so we went with that.

What model do you have and what year? I have a 2019 3120RL and it is my 2nd Montana the old one was a 2015 HC and I hated the cable slides so I upgraded the hydridic. I like the Montana but I have had issues and no every time I take it on long trips I can enjoy it because I worry about Frame Flex I changed the Kingpin to a Lippert air ride to help the flexing I have a hard time believing Keystone would have not seen that in the build and engineering. Before I retired I was a manufacturing Engineer for heavy Oil Well Drilling equipment and I was a structural engineer and it doesn't take a skilled engineer to realize there would be a problem with the roads these days and the hitch weight.

Thanks for watching. We have a 2020 3120RL it was built after the model year changes. We haven't had any structural issues.

Keystone RV's are introduced in March/April for the following year and some time around Aug they often make changes in their units. For example; our rig is a 2020 but was built in Aug of 2019. Our unit has the changes that were made half way through the 2020 model year. The earlier 2020s had different colors and features in the decor than ours. Hope that makes sense.

How is your solar system still working out for you? Is that panel still working good for you?

It is working great. I was thinking about adding a second panel but the 300w seems to keep up with the fridge just fine. My next mod is to change over to lithium batteries. I did also changed out my controller to a victron with blue tooth. That is nice to be able to bring it up on my phone and see everything.

@@Jonesin2Go With your new controller, did you run anything up into the cabinet where the "display" is supposed to go? Or just run solely on the bluetooth app? I have a 2021 3120RL Legacy with solar prep and am looking to add a solar panel and a controller just as you did. Thank you for the feedback on your set up. I appreciate it.

I am just using the app for now. It's pretty convenient so I didn't feel like the display in the cabinet was necessary.

@@Jonesin2Go I'm still doing research, and I'm curious. I haven't installed solar because I'm trying to figure out how the power gets to all of the solar stickered outlets in my 3120rl. Did you also have outlets that had solar stickers on them? My understanding is, if you install solar as you did in this video, the solar stickered outlets will have power. If there is no inverter on the 3120rl model, how does it push power to the solar stickered outlets? If you have any information on this, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. :-)

@@T0DDS Thanks for reaching out Todd. You would need to install an inverter to get power to those outlets. I have not done that as of yet. Stayed tuned to my channel as I have received a lot of comments and questions like yours so I am working out the details for the installation of what you are asking about on our rig and will do a video hopefully answering all of those questions. We will be back from Florida in April and I hope to have this done and a video out this spring.
