I'm loving my Rough Country molle panels but they're naked and asking to hold on to something. In this video, I install some QuickFist rubber clamps for my Fiskars axe, my Krazy Beaver shovel, my MyMedic kit, and a fire extinguisher.
I was not sponsored by any of this equipment and purchased it all on my own. Here is a list of the gear.
Krazy Beaver shovel: krazybeavertools.com/products...
Fiskars Iso Core: www.lowes.com/pd/Fiskars-IsoC...
My Medic Kit: mymedic.com/
QuickFist clamps: www.amazon.com/Original-Quick...
Rough Country Molle Panels: www.roughcountry.com/toyota-m...

No problem man! Glad the video helped! I know the Eo2 isnt for everyone because youre still needing to drill into your boxes but with a little bit of silicone, it can still be pretty water tight. I like being able to lock it and unlock it as well as take it on and off when I want to.

Thanks for the comment! I agree, it should be facing inwards. The quickfist clamps dont really allow for it to be faced that way with how close it holds it to the molle panel but I plan on upgrading to better clamps and hopefully can face the shovel inwards.

I noticed on your Gen 3. You don’t have a driver side storage door. Those 2 little holes at the tailgate end are suppose to bolt to them. I used 2 small 1/2” sheet metal screws to secure the bottom. If that’s loose, while your driving the vibration will eventually cause the whole panel to shake loose.

Ya, I'm kind of bummed that the 2019 and 2020's don't have the little cubby anymore. I'm actually thinking of making a video on how to install one and when I do, I'll definitely be mounting the molle panel to it. Nice thing about having the panel already on is it's a great template to mark where I'll be drilling lol.

I love my RC molle panels! So I used a different brand of grips but pretty much the same style and put a Fiskars hatchet in the same place you put your's. I mounted a fire extinguisher at the same place as you but I used a large molle water bottle holder. I put 2 molle pouches on the other side of the bed and that's where I keep ratchet straps and bungie cords. I keep my first aid kits in the cab. I need to get a shovel but think I will mount it against the head of the bed cause I got the full kit. With no tonneau cover are you worried about them going missing?
@HorizonBound
@HorizonBound 3 жыл бұрын
Nice! What kind of grips did you use? I've gone on quite a few off-roading trips since installing the molle panels and quickfist grips and I've noticed that the quickfist that holds the fire extinguisher in place doesnt do the best job. The fire extinguisher always ends up slipping through. The other clamp grips seem to be working great so far. Maybe I just need to add another grip for the fire extinguisher. I took off the tonneau to add all the panels and gear but put it back on when everything was installed. I definitely wouldnt want to leave all of my gear out in the open like that.

Nice! Congrats on the new truck! In my previous video I removed my toneau cover to add the molle panels and forgot to record me putting it back on but I have a cover that protects my gear (or at least makes it so people can't see what's in the bed). If I didnt have the cover on and my gear was exposed, I'd probably use some small cable locks or the gun locks that could wrap through the panel and make it harder to steal.

Lol yeah I'm definitely not going to be putting out any building fires with it but it's always good to have a fire extinguisher in case of emergencies. It could be useful putting out an engine fire or something smaller before it gets out of control. I also lived in LA where homeless people would set fire to pretty much anything and everything so having something to combat that is nice to have on hand.

@HorizonBound 11 ай бұрын
Hey Jason! Great question and thanks for the comment! So, I did leave out me putting my tonneau cover back on at the end of the video and I should have mentioned that in the video. That's my bad. But for those that don't have a tonneau cover or some bed cap of some sort, there's some other great options out there that have locks on them. Actually, 2 years after making this video, I don't really recommend the QuickFist rubber clamps especially for the heavier items because the rubber rips REALLY easily. I've gone through a few pairs and even bought stronger, heavier duty ones and they still didnt last. Instead, if you're looking for something that locks and keeps your tools safe and secure, DMOS makes a nice lockable mount that you can get here: dmosproshoveltools.com/collections/mounts-1/products/014-0001-41 or you can get these Rhino Rack mounts I plan on getting soon that also lock www.rhinorack.com/en-us/products/roof-racks/platforms-and-baskets/pioneer-platform-accessories/stow-it-utility-holder-regular_rsit Hope that helps answer your question!

any particular reason you chose RC over Caliraised?
@HorizonBound
@HorizonBound Жыл бұрын
Great question! I love Cali Raised but honestly, their panels are super expensive (and IMO overpriced) compared to RC. I bough TWO 3/4 panels from RC for I believe 150 bucks. I went to look at the website just now and they no longer sell the individual panels but instead sell the side panels AND the back cab panel for $240. With Cali Raised, you can buy the two full length panels for $330 and the back cab panel is $280. So $610 bucks for three panels from Cali or $240 for three panels from RC but the two panels are 3/4 length instead of full. Not knocking Cali Raised because I'm sure their panels are good But over $600 for some panels just seems a little overkill. My RC panels are holding up just fine too. A few scratches from taking off my equipment on every trip but that would happen to the Cali ones too. No rust on my RC ones but I also had a cover over the bed the whole time so that helped keep away moisture. Hope all this helps! If you do go with the Cali Raised ones, let me know what you think of them!

Instead of expensive clips ,Why can't Velcro strap(s) be used to like ones used to bind/hold cables costing 10c
@HorizonBound
@HorizonBound 2 жыл бұрын
Great question! So the velcro strips wouldnt be strong enough to hold my shovel, axe, and fire extinguisher. As it is, I'm looking for something stronger to hold my gear because the QuickFist clamps arent doing the job like I had hoped. If you don't plan on taking it on trails, you could be fine with some velcro straps but for me, when I'm offroading, Im having issues with even the expensive clips holding it on.

@@HorizonBound What ended up happening to your gear? Are you having problems with all of the clamp sizes?
@HorizonBound
@HorizonBound 2 жыл бұрын
Hey JTH! The gear is still there, I'm just not too happy with the quickfist clamps right now. They're just not as rugged or heavy duty as I had hoped. The clamp holding my fire extinguisher does a horrible job, even when it's notched as tight as possible, it's constantly slipping through and just resting on the bed. One of the two clamps that holds my axe is tearing in the inside. Now this all could be because when I'm going offroading, the bouncing around is just too much and it loses the tension to hold on tight. The clamps holding my shovel are still holding on just fine but that is also a very light shovel. I'm currently looking to see what I can buy to replace the quickfists so I'll post an update video when I do.

Consider doing yourself a favor and ditch the Quick Fist garbage for Kolpin Rhino Grip Flex mounts. You can grab one set of 3” Kolpin mounts and secure both your shovel and axe together under just two mounting points instead of four, saving a ton of space. Another 3” Kolpin mount will keep a standard 2.5lb ABC dry chem fire extinguisher from flopping around like it does in the QF. The QF straps will tear too- two of mine tore upon first use. Also, check out a how-to vid on how on properly weaving MOLLE straps so your first aid kit is secure and not flopping around. It’s pronounced ‘molly’, not ‘mohlay’, btw 🤙🏼

@@HorizonBound Right on, brother! Kolpin stuff can be found on the shelf @ Bass Pro Shops & a pair of 3” mounts is $15. They have 1.5” ones for $10 as well. The difference in quality & function is just night & day. I installed a full Cali-Raised MOLLE setup in my Tacoma a while back, so just want to share some experience & help folks avoid some of the gear that just isn’t up to the job. Also, it’s a good idea to just remove a MOLLE panel & weave accessories like pouches onto it and then reinstall. Much less of a headache, and It allows you to better maximize space & lay things out in a way that works best for you ✌🏼

I havent had any issues with mine over the 2 years I've had it. It definitely needed to be broken in IMO since the powdercoat paint originally made the tips slightly rounded but the points now are pretty sharp. I've easily broken through roots and dug in some pretty hard dirt. I know a lot of people have them just to drop a name brand but if you're actually using it, it's a very solid shovel. Gerber shovels are trash IMO and if I wasnt using the KB, I'd prob have the DMOS. Also, the KB is made in Colorado so Im always down to support anything American made.
