Waushakum Beach is officially reopened for swimming at the time of this recording, after being closed due to E Coli. It was just one of a number of closures at local swimming spots already this year. So, what's going on with the water quality, and what can be done to address the issue? If you've visited Waushakum recently, you probably noticed construction on a new stormwater infiltration basin, which is one strategy to help improve water quality at Waushakum specifically. It's expected to filter over 1 million gallons of water within one year. Its proximity to Waushakum Beach's swim area will hopefully help, but it's just one solution to a problem that goes beyond Waushakum--and even Framingham's other bathing beaches like Learned and Saxonville. It's an issue that expands across the state and the nation as a whole.
