its for the main part selfinterest, we are a small country, we have little or none vallueble possesions in the ground like many other countries; oil gold silver minerals or any other scarce product, that means we must find ways to make money, to make the country more prosperous we need to export, to do that we must speak several languages English spanish was important but i think now chinese is more important

Dutch can only sing well in English. Best English is spoken by the Scandinavians .

It's not the Dutch school system, it's the fact that all the American, English, Canadian and Australian TV-series and movies are subtitled in the Netherlands, except the ones for little kids, who are overdubbed. So from quite young age, children hear many native English speakers. Germany, France, Spain and Italy overdub nearly all English language video-material.

Dutch is the closest language to English, therefore they have advantage with the entonation and vocabulary. "With the exception of Frisian, Dutch is linguistically the closest language to English, with both languages being part of the West Germanic linguistic family. These means many Dutch words are cognates with English (meaning they share the same linguistic roots), giving them similar spelling and pronunciation". A Spaniard like me never will get such a perfect accent except after living a lot of years in an English speaking country but I'm very well in mine. No need to move. Are you Greek?
