woah. i can’t believe that the main character has a british accent and did a perfect new york style american accent!

The fact they pulled this all off with only 40 million amazes me. I love this movie and consider it one of my top favorites, not only for the story, but also for the special effects and cinematography.

I was an extra on Midway and let me say the set was impressive. The inside was actually in another studio seperated from the outside part. They used the same room for the mess hall and the room with all the beds. The amount of details was so impressive to me, like all the papers were very detailed and little things that wouldn't even show on screen. It was a really great experience!

The best war movie for the last 10 years

I hope they make another one but about the Battle of Leyte Gulf with the same actors. Top notch!

What I liked most about this movie was that it told the story of “Both Sides”! It was really a good film! Excellent work from all the actors and crew who took part in making this film!

The USS Enterprise was the one ship that the US government should have put the money up to save it for all time.

Gunners did scramble to their aircraft and from their positions returned fire at the attacking aircraft these tough men performed incredible acts of courage that the men of to day could never do and they did this with minimal training . These are the real Heroes . We shall never forget what they did . They gave us our freedom . Paid in full .

I was very impressed with this film. I love the fact that they stuck with the real people involved and didn't mung up the story with fake characters and storylines, like was done in the 1977 film. Why impose fake characters and stories when the real characters and events are so interesting and compelling? Bravo to all.

I took my younger, Norwegian-American children to see this, over here in Norway, and the theater had the rock-and-roll seats, so the seat tilted you down a little in the dives, and when the plane was oscillating, you were. Fortunately, my daughter pointed out the OFF switch for the water spray. :-) There are some mistakes in the film. The only planes from Midway shown are the 2-engine B-26s. Lots of them depicted carrying bombs, but there were only 4 of them, and they carried torpedoes, uselessly. Our fighters and the innovation of our Thach Weave beam-(counter-)attack tactic was left out. Actually, there were B-17 heavy bombers (which hit nothing, being at high altitude) and inexperienced Marine divebomber pilots who took heavy losses for no hits. Then there was the massacre of our Wildcat and useless Brewster Buffalo fighters over Midway. The B-26 scene should be redone, and maybe the others could be added, since CGI is relatively easy to edit. Admiral Fletcher was technically in tactical command, but he was left out of the film. The other Midway film to come out in 2014, Dauntless, is an excellent complement in its perspective of a Dauntless pilot and gunner and a PBY flying boat crew. Patrick Wilson as Lt. Cdr Layton - "Washington is WRONG." - and Mandy Moore as Dick Best's wife ... and the look on her daughter the little girl's face at Pearl Harbor ... were excellent. And Dennis Quaid's "Bull" Halsey was unforgettable too.

"Midway is an incredible story and it has never been told right." Love you Dennis but it's called read a book. There are many good ones. Hollywood will NEVER do any of this stuff justice. But kudos for exposing this stuff to a younger generation who may not otherwise know. It's an extremely important part of our history that schools should make time for between teaching cultural geography and transgender history.

There are lots of good movies can't top the other, for the original or the first one no matter what the technology brings, but this one Midway made it's mark for me, the first Midway I watched in the 80's together with Tora Tora Tora and Empire of the sun all has it's own different intense there they used those original materials.

They need to make a movie about the naval battle for the Philippines. The main fleet went off on a wild goose chase and left a few small escort carriers and destroyers to fight off big Japanese battleships and cruisers.

this movie has so many things wrong it should have been redone. half the planes are marked wrong. some of the dialogs is over the top. and the attacks are overly over the top. one bomb does not set off every plane. it's just like every movie about midway there's a love story.

I am a retired U.S. Navy Master Chief Photographer's Mate and had the privilege of shooting part of the film "Hooks Down - Wheels Down" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z69mi610qs-Rd4k.html in which I was lucky enough to meet and interview some of the key players of the Midway Battle including: Elliot Buckmaster who was the Skipper of USS Yorktown and Jimmy Thatch, originator of the Thatch Weave among others. I have been a student of the Coral Sea to Midway timeframe in the Pacific War ever since. I have a "What if?" question regarding Midway. What would have happened if Bull Halsey had not developed the skin condition which removed him from command. Halsey, had determined that he would not use the Douglas TBD Devastator torpedo bomber in future actions since the planes were not up to par and the Mk.13 torpedoes were crap (This according to Dusty Kleitz's autobiography, "Don't Call Me A Hero"). Well with the assignment of new force commanders. Halsey's determination not to use the TBD was either overlooked or determined not to be valid. The torpedo squadrons attacking the three Japanese carriers were totally wiped out in the first action of U.S. Navy carrier aircraft. Not a torpedo exploded against a Japanese ship. However, the sacrifice of the torpedo squadrons was not in vain! The Japanese combat air patrol Zero aircraft were all at lower levels defending the task force against the torpedo bombers giving the SBD Dauntless squadrons a free run at the first three Japanese carriers sunk. WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THERE HAD BEEN NO TORPEDO PLANES TO LURE THE ZEROS TO A LOWER ALTITUDE?

So they filmed on pearl harbor and still managed to let everything there look like the actors are surrounded by greenscreen. Wow they are talking about having a connection with the characters and the story. And that the effects are secondary. Maybe they should have done something with their own advise.

So many things wrong. I don't understand how they think they got it "right". First of all, there was only 4 B-26s at Midway a that time and they were armed with torpedo's. It shows a squadron bombing from medium altitude! They would deploy their dive brakes prior to rolling over, singularly, not diving on the target as a group as depicted. No fighter protection whatsoever. Where were the B-17s that bombed the fleet ( all bombs missed)? PBY's opened up the battle by attacking the fleet at night and hitting a support ship, an oiler, with a torpedo. It's ridiculous to say it was authentically accurate as they say. They could have done a much better job.
