Gut wrenching song especially if you’ve “gone to somebody’s office“ then you know what I mean. Fantastic performance! She knocked it out of the park! Annie Lennox, sings about a similar situation in her song “why“ at the Arista records anniversary, a woman and her piano, live. Sinead O’Connor‘s does the emotion justice as well. Great reaction H!

I went to the concert and saw her at the Fox theater in Detroit.. this was the standout song for me. I was lucky enough to see her concert with the Lion and the Cobra album too. We are the same age and I'm devastated that she's gone

WOW I have watched many lives of Sinead's but not this one either, what an INCREDABLE performance!!! She's just wow, wow. Thankyou for reviewing the lives as that was her favorite way of performing/expressing and her best imo. I thought this song was about the music industry tbh they dumped her because she wouldn't conform to being the pretty little thing they demanded or she dumped them. She had a great frienship to her demise with John her first husband and too young here to be post her 2nd marraige? Look into it further for interest. She's never bagged her personal relationships ever. The loss of Shane broke her in the end he was her Soul Mate. Thankyou Paul for this request and Harri for review

It's about her relationship with her manager, Fachtna O'Ceallaigh. It was complex, he was twenty years older than her, a mentor, father figure and lover while she was going through all this fame thing. Initially, he helped fuel controversies like the sympathy for the IRA comments, later retracted as a foolish lack of knowledge, but was quite irate about the SNL pope picture scandal.

My favorite is a very little known song called Heroine from a movie called Captive in 1986 (that I think no one saw). She collaborated with The Edge from U2 who worked on the soundtrack. It's just stunning. For years I only had it on a tape from an alternative radio show until I found the album in a in a vinyl record shop a few years ago. You should REALLY hear it. There is one older more superior version of this song I am pretty sure. Only if you are interested i can try to dig it up, though this one captures the same mood w the particular lyrics. It is also a live1 of a kind.

Terrible memories listening to this. I actually feel shaken as the words spill from her mouth. This is suicide, wanting to let go of what was inflicted on her & me. I was given the wrong type of love growing up. The last day of my acquaintance was to my father, if I were to meet him in heaven perhaps I’d be a daughter that isn’t exploited. The office= Pearly gates .

Prince wrote this song in 1984. Sinead O’Connor did this cover version in 1990. It went to no.1 in the UK charts and no.1 in 17 other countries. She tweaked the script slightly to make it a female version. The part she had tears in (All the flowers that you planted, Mama, in the backyard….) was when she was thinking about her mum in that moment, who died in a car crash in 1985. Three weeks before that accident, Sinead wanted to forgive her Mum for all the abuse she gave her. She had a very difficult life with her mum, and wanted to forgive her, but it was too late. All the other lyrics in this song (written by Prince) wasn’t about her life. She chose this song because she loved it herself.

When you create a piece of art, it captures a fierce moment. The thing with music is, you have to perform it, and perform it, over, and over... who knows if she did or didn't move past the bitterness, but the audience wants you to recapture that moment, even if only in performance.

I don't like this flashy, self-indulgent performance, I can hardly understand the words and it's not pleasant to my ears. The studio version is more refined. It's from her 2nd album which is excellent but truthfully I prefer her 1st one "The Lion and the Cobra". On there she also can croon a lullaby or shriek like a banshee at will, more genuine and less produced.
