Why Is the RAN guys salute not Australian?? That's how yanks salute?? LEST YE FORGET. I THINK EVERONE HAS.

That’s how the Navy salutes the Americans copied the Royal Navy - maybe others. The salute is performed with the palm facing in as in the times of sail when the salute began the hands were always dirty from rigging etc. the tradition stuck with Navy

The Royal Australian Navy (RAN), is a direct decedent of the British Royal Navy (RN), where as the Australian Regular Army (ARA) and Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) trace their origins to those British services and share their traditions, much as the American forces stem from the Royal Navy and Royal Marines presence in the Thirteen Colonies Protectorate (predecessor to USA) also.

Navy salute is different to Army salute in ADF. Navy salute looks more like US military style salute.
