Quilted Maple LES PAUL build | Part 2 of 4

In this video I demonstrate how I joint and carve a quilted maple top in the style of a Les Paul or PRS Singlecut using gouges, thumb planes and scrapers. This was a particularly challenging piece of wood to carve in this way.

Could you do a video explaining the tools and equipment you use? I would like to learn to make my own solid body electric guitar one day. I'm just trying to learn where to start. I checked and my local library didn't have any books on the topic.

When you put a plane down you should lay it on it's side, not with the blade facing down. It dulls the blade otherwise.

I like that trick for sanding the neck angle in using a shim and the thickness sander. I'm totally stealing that idea, hope you don't mind!

That’s was my thought too. I love seeing all of the different tricks that Luthiers do to get that angle.

Would a Surform plane not be better than a gouge chisel for rough shaping the edges?

I like to avoid tools that create dust where possible, otherwise I'd use an anglegrinder and get it carved in a a fraction of the time

If you are going to express an opinion, can you be more specific on what is so ridiculously stupid? I thought this build process can only be completed mostly by hand, since it's not a mass production factory will million dollar tools.
