One of the most common ADHD medication misconceptions is that all the meds do is help use with attention and focus. But this is simply not true. ADHD meds do so much for us than help with paying attention. Here are a few responses I received on Twitter when I asked the question, "how does your ADHD medication help you other than improving focus and attention?"
With over 200 responses, many of the replies said things like: motivation, productivity, emotional dysregulation, chores, appetite management... even sleep! What about you? How do your meds help?

I like content like this from people who have ADHD. I've watched lots of doctors who don't have it talk about it. While they are useful and helpful, this is more enriching for me right now .

Wishing you the best of luck! Don't forget that there are LOTS of options for medication and that it's always okay to ask your doctor to titrate your dose or for another medication altogether. Not every med works the same for everyone! You'll find what works for you. 🥰

Its not true it does nothing for executive function for starters. And it does turn you into a zombie. Taking meds might be a benefit for others but not you! Don't listen to psychosomatics suffering from the placebo effect.

@WhatintheADHD "ADHD HYDROXYCUT" Hydroxycut Hardcore is what I've switched to without mentioning it to my Dr. I'm too worried I won't get it or I'll get in trouble. I wanted to try clonazepam for my anxiety bcuz I used 2b prescribed it and it seemed to help a lot but she said no way. So we tried wellbutrin instead but it screwed with my being able to enjoy things - and made psychedelics not work. I've been honest with doctors before and it made it worse. idk what to do but hydroxycut is expensive and my tolerance is way too high. I keep discovering things that work but only the furst time i take it.

My daughter only takes it on test/quiz days and her adorable personality and appetite is back! One size doesn't fit all, but we don't want her on speed and she doesn't want to be on it either. Whatever helps you!

Friendly reminder that not all ADHD meds are created equal! There are nonstimulant options that wouldn't equate to what you're referring to as "speed"

It helps my sleep pattern more than any other sleep med I’ve ever been on. So many doctors, sleep specialists and even a neurologist ignored me when I told them I suspected I have adhd and told me it was just anxiety. And guess what, after all that a stimulant is the thing that actually helps my sleep. This is how I know I definitely have adhd haha. Edit: also my bingeing is so much better. I still do binge at night sometimes when I’m tired and it’s worn off, but definitely a huge improvement 😊. It also helps slow down my speech (in a good way). It’s more controlled and I don’t speak like a motor.

Sadly it didn’t have much benefit for me. Plus it raised my resting heart rate. Stopped taking them and my life hasn’t fallen apart. I think others need them more than I do. And there’s a shortage atm.
