Im soon 40 and still want to believe that this is normal state🙈 I constantly do these things, and often carry around unnecissary stuff around the apartement, while cleaning or when im about to leave the flat. Also Ive stopped getting surprised or angry with myself when neighbours ring the Bell to tell me Keys are in the door. And the chatterbox in the head. But I still dont know why I should get a diagnose, how would it help me, or If Its Autism, ADHD or just system overload. Or just what its like beeing a mom. But then, Ive been like this since I was a kid. And there are soo many other small things as well Ive always thought of as me beeing weird and different🥵

and then you're panicky because you don't know if you actually used the fork for something and forgot and it only looks clean so you better put it in the sink anyways but should you really waste water cleaning it if it's not actually dirty and "mom, do you know what the fork on the counter is for?!" before you inevitably clean it anyways because better safe than sorry and by now you probably should do the other dishes in the sink but it's trash day and you need to put it on the curb and oh, you should check the mail that's a pretty stamp that grandma used where did she get it why is that car honking at me... oh sorry i'm in the road. and that previously clean and recleaned fork ends up sitting in the sink with actually dirty dishes for several days. the end

I am 68 and have had ADHD all my life. Recently I started having problems remembering words and names, more than most my age. I got myself tested extensively by a neuropsychologist, fearing I could have the beginnings of dementia. Result: Nope, just my ADHD! ... Very nice simulation of what this is like! Not sure how many "thoughts" you had going behind the one you needed to focus on, but I think have at least a dozen or so at any given time. Oh, so my "wise old grandma" advice for anyone needing help with ADHD symptoms is to see your personal physician. There are lots of medications available to try, as well as other resources. You can do this. Take care and good luck!

There's no need to scold yourself. It's not going to change anything. I have a hard time finishing my meal without getting distracted, so I find it is it really annoying when my friend keeps getting up every 5 minutes to do something else. So I do scold HIM, which he finds equally annoying. 😅

So accurate! My partner and I like to watch TV while eating. It’s gotten to the point where he won’t start the show until I’m sitting down and he has asked me if I’m ready, with a follow up question if I am sure. Nope, I’m not. We repeat this about 2-3 times. Then after he hits play, I quietly debate in my head if I should get up to grab a different drink, grab a napkin, go to the restroom, or … You get it. Thank god someone gets it.

This is exactly how it feels to live my life almost all of the time. I’ve seen on the internet that said “not everyone thinks their inner thoughts in words, sometimes it’s in concepts or images”. Mine are a combination of both. The “top monologue” is verbal; it’s the one you hear most clearly in the video. The rest are sometimes music, words, concepts, and/or images.

@@JawshMcCullaugh ~ Oh, nah, mine does switch, just not often. I can try to switch manually, which only works occasionally, and it’s funny cause sometimes it’s like trying to watch a KZfaq video at 42% volume while another video plays on the same computer at 100% volume and I’m pretending not to hear it. But mainly it stays one in front. Sometimes a second, ever so slightly quieter one. Having many switching constantly or having more then 3 being “in front” constantly would be absolutely terrible.

It’s really weird to think that people don’t have like 2-3 different types of thoughts at once while music is playing in their heads… Do people really get up to get a fork and just think nothing but “I am getting my fork.” That doesn’t seem right at all… How would they multitask? Driving and talking wouldn’t be possible for neurotypical people if their brains could only ever think one thought at all times.
@meowJACK

It's the same for me. The "top monologue" is the ONLY part that's verbal. My brain doesn't just come up with dialogue/sentences on its own - only when I'm actively, consciously thinking. My subconscious/automatic thoughts are definitely more just concepts, ideas, daydreams, scenarios, etc... I'm not even sure how to describe or identify it exactly. No images for me as I also have aphantasia. To be honest I have a hard time fully connecting to what goes on in my own mind

Just wanted to hop on here and say thanks. My dad recently had a meltdown trying to explain what he's going through on a day to day basis. Because he didn't have a word for it it was extremely frustrating and he felt invalidated. From what he told me I was reminded of this and other videos like this explaining ADHD. I then showed him the video and even though his English isn't that good he felt seen and understood what was going on. He basically said "This is my life." I then encouraged him to talk to a therapist and he got the ADHD diagnosis. Now he's taking medication for it and he's doing better. I'm glad creators like you are sharing their experiences. @@SweetStuffOnMonarchLane - it’s not about quieting the brain. Focusing on trying to quiet your mind is actually a huge distraction. Meditation that work for me is allowing the thoughts to flow through without focusing on any of them. It just becomes a flow and you don’t pay any attention. You just let the thoughts pass. It relieves the anxiety and allows you to not focus on them. They come into your mind but they aren’t ever focused on.
