Every part of the UK is failing, and there are urgent crises everywhere. Labour have stated their immediate priorities, but what about the urgent problems that are going to hit them on day one? Thames Water, full prisons, import control problems? What are the emergencies that Labour need to sort out immediately?

@@chrismanners9091With the greatest respect that's the most deluded comment. The NHS already has a functional test and trace system. Dildo Hardon not only had no experience but it is obvious that it was a grift designed to channel cash directly into the offshore accounts of as many friends and cronies as possible. Consultants grifting £1000 a day to produce a system based on an obviously ridiculous principle (Bluetooth) which would never work and has been demonstrably proved to have had absolutely no positive effect on the tracking of infections. Do you not read?

@@chrismanners9091i think its more the app side where was it 42bn was spent when feasibility studies told them what they wanted would not work (Dominic Cummings wanted the app to spy on things we were doing and feed info back to him but what was asked for would just drained batteries ) 42bn- we could of 7 new air craft carriers for that. 40 hospitals built . Its a ridiculous sum. Then it turned out they had over 2000 consultants getting up to 6k/day on this- just legalised theft of our tax money
@chrismanners9091
@chrismanners9091 Күн бұрын
@@PurityVendetta I read plenty, thanks. The vast majority of the expense was free testing. We did a lot of it and that cost the money. The tracing was a small part of the budget. Wales had a more public system and did a bit better than the UK, and credit to them for that, but equally they had stricter lockdowns, and it's hard to disentangle. It's not been "demonstrably proved" that the tracing had no effect at all. That was said by a House of Lords Committee, who by your own logic, have no relevant experience. You'll notice that other parties haven't criticised Dido Harding so much lately. That's because on balance the results weren't too bad. That's very different to other procurement, the VIP lane etc.

SUBJECT: *Speaker Hoyle - should he be replaced..?* IMO definitely Hoyle should be replaced, not only because he wasn't nearly robust enough in dealing with the Tories, but because he sometimes went against Parliamentary Procedure in order to accomodate the wishes of Keir Starmer. In other words, he has been partisan, and the Speaker is *supposed* to remain impartial. The words *'As useless as a chocolate teapot'* spring to mind with Hoyle. I suspect that Starmer will want to keep him, because of him having been 'helpful' to Starmer and because he's 'One of us.'

@@lordsummerisle852 I liked John Bercow very much, but because he's no longer an MP I fear that this isn't going to happen, alas and alac. As to Hoyle being impartial - he isn't. Quite the opposite. He will do whatever Starmer wants him to do, as can be seen with this example: During a Commons Debate on the safety of women in general and female MPs in particular, Dianne Abbott - the most abused and threatened MP in the history of Parliament - kept standing up trying to get the Speaker's eye, but was totally ignored for the entire. long debate by him. Why? Because he was under orders from Starmer - a real control freak - NOT to allow Abbott to speak. Why? Because Starmer was at that time trying to freeze Abbott out of the Labour Party. Starmer failed, because of the massive backlash and the appalling optics of sacking the first black female MP. There are many other examples, but you get the drift.

SUBJECT: *Electoral Reform.* I disagree with Phil about the way Starmer is likely to view the abandonment of FPTP in favour of PR. IMO Starmer will see things EXACTLY as Blair saw them. Starmer will get a MASSIVE Parliamentary majority on 4th July, and just as Blair did in 2019, Starmer will decide that he REALLY, REALLY likes having a massive majority. Therefore, he will dig his heels in and stick with FPTP. Although the vintage comedy series Yes Prime Minister was fictional, the truths about how the PM will view any major changes to the way things have always been done before is clear to see from this. The moment Jim Hacker thought that any given course of action would result in him losing popularity or even losing the next election saw him dropping whatever proposal came his way like a hot potato.

My real concern is that what we need is a Labour leader who is radical. Starmer comes across as too cautious to take the radical steps that are needed to rebuild the country. We would need the Anti Thatcher. Somebody who will reshape the entire country to the benefit of everybody. Not just propping up failing infrastructure, but building new schools and hospitals. Not just talking about electoral reform but actually putting in proportional representation. Not just chatting with unions, but making sure we can get back all those medics that have left the UK. Not just putting in monitoring of water companies, but threatening make them publically owned so they lose all their dividends. Then tell them to clean up their mess and put the money they paid themselves into improving the sewers. Removing flammable cladding and recouping the money from the companies that lied and caused Grenfell. That money can go into removing their dangerous cladding. Sorting out RAAC once and for all. This costs money, but that is called taking the required action. Not convening expert panels, followed by citizen panels, followed by reports and inquiries, followed by too expensive, let's park it for the time being. We have had 14 years of nothing being done. Labour cannot make the same mistakes.

Not an option atm or for several years. Realignment and working to fulfill the requirements to even be able to apply will take several years in itself, and the EU has been very clear, that no application will be considered, until it is backed by political unity. Meaning the Tories will also have to come around and fully support EU membership as well as substantially more than a 52-48 section of the population. This is not speculation. The EU has been very clear in public about this. Wishful thinking will not change that.

First past the post does not guarantee a coalition government. We've had proportional representation through a single transferable vote longer than our independence in 1964 (Malta) and we had multiple parties but what happened was the parties grouped up into two super parties, bit like the US. So our conservative party has centre right but also centre left politicians and a smattering of right wing politicians and our labour party has also got a handful of centre right members and a smattering of left wing members. This is the result of PR over time.

I'm as old as you and I have followed politics all my life, and always been a labour supporter, but really don't like Streeting. There is something about him I just don't trust, though I can't put my finger on it. And I don't feel like that about any of the other Labour front bench, so it's nothing to to with which wing of the party he may be on, nor is it about policy, because I agree with what he says about most things, and rarely agree with anyone on everything. I have even defended his policies. It may be some quirk of manner that niggles me. I devoutly hope I'm wrong about him. But I can understand why he turns other people off.

Most of the general public don't actually frequent the internet and those that do don't research things on the internet, at most they do a bit of family and friends social media and never delve into anything else and that's why people are voting Labour, because they don't like the Tories and they're oblivious to what Labour is all about so Labour is their alternative vote, but I can guarantee you after 5 years of a Labour government the general public wont need the internet because they'll be able to see themselves with their own 2 eyes and hear with their own 2 ears how Labour destroys this country and after 5 years of the people seeing the light there will be a Reform government in 2029. Mark my words.
