The Adiyogi statue is a 112 feet tall, 147 feet long and 82 feet wide steel statue of the Hindu deity Shiva with Thirunamam at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. It is recognized by the Guinness World Records as the "Largest Bust Sculpture” in the world. Designed by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, it weighs around 500 tons. Adiyogi refers to "the first yogi" or Shiva as the originator of yoga. It was established to inspire people towards inner well-being, through yoga. Adiyogi is located at the Isha Yoga Center. Its height, 112 feet, symbolizes the 112 possibilities to attain to moksha (liberation) that are mentioned in yogic culture, and also the 112 chakras in the human system. A linga called "Yogeshwar Linga" was consecrated and is placed in front of the statue. The Indian Ministry of Tourism has included the statue in its official Incredible India campaign. It is also the venue of a light and sound show on Shiva as a yogi. Adiyogi was inaugurated on 24 February 2017 by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri. He also launched a companion book Adiyogi: The Source of Yoga written by Vasudev. To mark the unveiling of the statue, the song "Adiyogi - The Source of Yoga" was released by Isha Foundation. Adiyogi Divya Darshanam is 3D laser show, narrating story of Adiyogi and how the science of yoga was given to human beings. It is a 14 minute light and sound show, projected against the Adiyogi Statue. It happens on weekend and other auspicious occasions. In 2020, the show won Mondo*dr EMEA & APAC Award for Technology in Entertainment in the category of House of Worship.
The Isha Yoga Center situated at the foothills of Velliangiri, on the outskirts of Coimbatore, is the headquarters for Isha Foundation. Adiyogi - The Source of Yoga is situated 30 kilometers (20 miles) west of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Coimbatore, a major industrial city in southern India, is well connected by air, rail and road. Major airlines operate regular flights to Coimbatore from Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Train services are available from all major cities in India. There are direct buses between Coimbatore and Adiyogi. Taxis can be booked from the airport as well as the railway station. Alternatively, contact the travel desk to book a taxi to the center.
Adiyogi is open to visitors between 10:30 am and 5:30 pm.
