You can change your ATAC pedal's release angle with different cleat configurations. Let's take a look!

It would be amazing if Time cleats came with wider bolt holes (like what’s seen on the Silca Ti Time cleats). This would allow for far more adjustment of the riders final stance width… something often altered by bike fitters and something that Time doesn’t seem to offer when comparing to the competition. Varying replacement Axle lengths (or at point of purchase) would be another good way to go… like Ergon. Hopefully SRAM’s acquisition leads to some better product development! Just got my hands on some Atac pedals to try but worry the stance will be too narrow for me with any adjustment left to pedal washers!

Anyone have suggestions on how to reduce release tension? Not release angle, but the force required to disengage. I just installed a set of ATAC XC2 pedals with Easy cleats to see if this pedal system might be a good replacement for Speedplay Frogs, which I have on all of my bikes. The Frogs are of course discontinued and you can't even get cleats anymore except for the ones listed for several hundred USD on eBay or Amazon. Thanks for hosing us over, Speedplay/Wahoo. Frogs have zero release tension and despite a 20-degree release angle are trivially easy to disengage even with my bum knee, so for me, angle is not the problem, but rather the force required. And right now, the ATAC XC2 and Easy cleats just are not doing it for me. Maybe when my knee is back to 100%, it might be OK, but for now it's a painful chore to disengage. I know higher end ATAC XC models have three levels of tension. How does the easiest level of tension compare to the tension of the XC2's fixed tension? Is there some re-shaping of the Easy cleats that would reduce tension? I'm afraid that with this design of cleat and retention system, worn down cleats may actually make it MORE difficult to disengage (the opposite problem that worn Frog cleats and pedal bodies have).

I am getting my first EMTB, the PIVOT shuttle AM. I’ve always been a TIME ATAC pedal user and I’ve always used the top-of-the-line model, now being the XC 12. I’m wondering two things:will the XC 12 be Durable enough on a EMTB, and is a platform pedal More necessary on a EMTB? I come from being a cross country racer. Any strong suggestion on which model? I use time pedals on all my mountain bikes, road, bikes, and gravel bikes that I have owned. I don’t want to have to worry about which shoes and cleats to put on or take with me on a trip or vacation! Thank you.

How do you determine the release angle of a set of used cleats?

@@johnmcmullen456 honestly we thought you were just playin haha. So usually they are marked L and R, but if they are worn enough to where you might not be able to see the markings, you could maybe tell by the shape of the cleat. Each cleat has a tip at the front and the back that engages with the pedal spring. The tip at the back has an angled tip that slopes downward. The LEFT cleat slopes downward to the right and the RIGHT cleat slopes downward to the left. Kinda hard to explain without showing you a picture, but let us know if that makes sense at all!

@@timepedals_ I am new to mountain biking and recently purchased a used carbon Stump Jumper. The seller thru in a pair of old bike shoes with used Atac cleats. I can make out the "L" & "R", but don't know how to tell if they are the standard degree, OR instead, the "quick release" version of Atac cleats. No, not a joke. Thanks if you can help.

@@johnmcmullen456 we'd be willing to bet they are the 13/17 degree cleats that come standard with most ATAC pedals, but if you head to www.sram.com/en/time-sport/products/cleats?filters=&sort=Relevancy&page=1 you can see the visual differences between the 10 degree cleats and the 13/17 degree cleats. The release angle of the 10 degree cleat is always 10 degrees, while the release angle of the 13/17 degree cleats changes when you swap Left and Right cleats. Let us know if this is helpful!!!
