As you know we recently released the Tern2 TwinStarDrag reel, and one of it's strongest features is the internal cast control mechanism. David Nilsen shows us exactly how easy it is to add or remove a weight to fine-tune your casting.

I haven’t had a chance to fish my tern 2 400, but my first impression is that the free spool out of the box wouldn’t be great for fly lining a sardine without taking out the cast control. I’m also disappointed that the clamp won’t work on my modern rods because it doesn’t clear the gear box and nuts are too small in length to secure.

Chris as for the freespool, remember the cast control is always on and it will cast a live bait perfect once you adjust the spool tension know on the right side of the reel. Everyone is using them for live bait especially the 400 and 500 sizes for the school tuna. If you notice on the new rod you have they should have a solid reel seat. Most rods coming out now are designed to be used without a clamp. It is also much more comfortable fishing all day without your wrist hitting the clamp. This is what we have learned over the last several years but personal preference is important. We have a few videos on this channel of the new reel if you have not checked them out. Try the reel without the clamp and let us know what you think.

Nice! It's just a centrifugal brake like most baitcasters. Was wondering what kind of brake you all would use in the new Tern.

That is correct. That is most effective and easier to build to keep price reasonable.

I'm thinking of buying the newer Tern 2 but I also wanted to know where I can get one of those Accurate shirts David is wearing in the video? I'm looking for that exact shirt on your site but do not see anything under the apparel section.

Hi Nick. That shirt is no longer available unfortunately. That design was from a few years ago. I'll let the team know in case they are thinking of bringing it back. Tight lines!

I have used one. Best thing to do is try it and see what you think. I have used them right out of the box with good success.

Can this be used in the surf where casting distance is needed?

Yes but not submerged as it is not a waterproof reel. Castibility is very good but no reel can handle the saltwater intrusion unless its water proof.

Which model would you recommend as a jig stick for yellowtail as well as the capability to fish foamers 50-150 grade? I would probably use silk ocean braid as it is has the same diameter of 65 pound pp but is rated for 90 pounds. It’s been hard trying to find a reel that can cast well, small profile, and built like a tank. Probably will pare with Phenix axis 909hj.

I use a tern2 500X with 65lb and 80lb 3 foot leader. Does good on fish unto 100lbs. Bigger goto the TXD-600NX and its on. 150 would be the biggest then goto Valiant BV2- 600N or BV2-500.

@@AccurateFishingReels is the 600 good for yellowtail and smaller grade foamers aswell?what makes the 600 more capable the line capacity or frame design

The 600N is probably a better pick for casting at foamers with 65lb or 80lb braid. BV2-600N would do the trick. If you want a star drag hit up the Tern2 line, they cast insane. @@socalfishincrew5410

@@AccurateFishingReels would a 600n be over kill for yt? Do they cast lighter lures like tady 45s and stick bait?
