I became a copper in 1976. We went to the range three times a year to qualify with revolvers and shotguns. When we arrived the range officer gave us this cotton nail aprons you got from lumber companies for free.. These tactical nail aprons stuck around for years! I wore mine low so I could use my dump pouches but there were guys who actually carried these things with a hundred rounds of ammo in their briefcases in case they ran into a lot of bad guys to shoot.. We were all a bunch of cowboys and “tactical” wasn’t really a thing…

IDK man, I tried Thumb's beard length for the ladies, but all I got was "who are you" and "why did you follow me home." Just weird.

83 is pretty decent was my first non issued kit I used. Many in Australia used the 83 I had both a Original chest rig and vest back in the late 90’s and early 00’s then went AusCam versions for a couple of years. Before settling on a very early full Molle Battle Bra for vehicle or I’d run a belt kit with LBV for extra mag storage before they bought in rules not allowing non issues pouches under SCOPE. Then I had to run the issued/approved stuff. Some stuff was only authorised for use at certain units so after leaving had to go back to normal. Oh well that was what feels like half a lifetime ago. Now it’s just memories.

I threw my Crye airlite chest rig & Haley 2.0 flatpack together. Messed with the buckles and straps, hour later it’s done. Should work with most 4 buckles chest rigs like the mayflowers and such.

Kommandostore makes a similar modernized P83 rig called the P84 if you want to take a look at that. (Same, same, but different). A lot of the same concepts, but with wider spaced molle real estate on the sides, an X harness vs the H, and three mag pouches vs four.
