Great pictures of one of North Devon's Gems. I love Appledore, so did my Grandmother ..bless Her. We always liked stopping at The Hocking's Ice Cream van when i was a Child....very nice indeed.....Excellent upload Mike....Steve.

At the end of my walk I came across a Hockings Ice cream van on the front and enjoyed one too! It was a lovely sunny day and he was kept very busy!

Never Heard of the place,,,, but it looks a smashing place,,, all-be-it deserted ,,, I think the bright sunshine is hiding a very raw and biting day ,,, although I bet 75 % of the place is owned as second homes / holiday homes,,, Just the one local chap scratching a living from the sand ,,,, Smashing shots ,,,, many thanks ,,,,,, Alan

Growing up in Plymouth as I did I had heard of Appledore and learnt it was important for Ship building. That work still goes on at the other side of the town that I explored last February in a video I made back then. There are many interesting narrow lanes to be explored there!

There are many other films about Appledore on KZfaq. One I particularly like is an ancient one where people are seen running down those narrow streets being called out to man the lifeboat.

There are many similarities to Watchet in Somerset where we live. It has a history associated with making a living from the sea.

Our first visit was in 2004. I had often wondered what it was like! Across the water is the village of Instow which is very similar and worth exploring too!

I wonder if anyone can tell us what the object looking like a bell at 0.31 is used for?

ADMIRALSCORNER I did notice,,,, and wonder what the double cone / bell shaped item on the break water might be ,,, and my only conclusion was an old Fog-Horn ,,, but looking at it again im not so sure,,,

***** At the bottom of the device there is a circular plate which appears to connect trough to the top where there appears to be a clapper. What would cause that plate move I am unsure! Could it be a high wind?

ADMIRALSCORNER Even with the addition of the plate and clapper still Not sure,,,, I know most fog horns are run on compressed air ,,, and quite big volumes so much so they often have large air tanks... is it some modern "ART" and waves hit the 45 degree concrete pad underneath and the wave is directed up the cone shape,,,, from the orientation of the plate //// clapper etc ,,,, can you predict what might happen with water gushing up through it ,,,,
