Hi Mike, love these tips. My favourite multitrack time savers for editing longer form: - Ctrl+mouse wheel = zoom horizontal in Multitrack - this saves you having to go up to the top to zoom in and out on the time. - Key mapping = I didn't frequently use Z, X, or C, so I remapped them to be delete, ripple delete clip, and ripple delete selection. It seems really small, but it means I can control the mouse with my left hand and not have to move my hand when I'm editing a podcast etc. Thanks so much for the videos. They're sensational.

The Shift + E tip is great, thanks! Something I learned recently... There's no "ripple delete gap for all tracks," only for single tracks. I take notes during the recording so I know where mistakes and noises are that can be deleted. I can't ripple delete as I get rid of those because it will make my notes irrelevant. So after making all my cuts my solution is using ALT + left or right to move the playhead to the next cut, make in and outs, and then I can ripple delete the time selection.

What I've done when I'm editing a podcast and there are notes with timings ("at 2:05 cut out...") is work from the END of the file first. In other words, work backwards and start editing from the bottom of the notes. This way you don't change the timings on all the following notes with your very first edit, which would happen if you start at the first edit.

Thank you for this video, especially the ripple delete tip for podcast editing! Instead of deleting, can you do something similar except with auto-heal?
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell 4 ай бұрын
Yes, you can use the auto-heal feature in Adobe Audition to remove unwanted sounds from your podcast recordings without deleting them. The auto-heal function works by analyzing the audio and filling in the gaps with a natural-sounding replacement. This can be particularly useful for podcast editing, where you may want to remove background noise or other unwanted sounds without disrupting the flow of the conversation.
@music_playlist4490
@music_playlist4490 4 ай бұрын
@@MikeRussell Thanks for your reply. That's exactly what I want to do but it seems like it's only possible to apply the auto-heal feature to a single track at a time as it is disabled in multitrack mode? It'd be ideal to be able to apply it to same segments of both tracks simultaneously.

I was hoping to see a faster way to do checkerboarding of dialog within a multitrack podcast session. I like to delete the parts where the other two guests aren't talking and the 3rd guest is talking. So there isn't as much background noise behind each person's dialog. Is there a faster way without manually cutting out/muting each "non-speaking section"? Thanks!

Is there a tip within audition, or plugin, or ther program to automatically merge the tracks together into a single track? Or do I need to do it manually? Thank you again

You could simply put the two tracks into multitrack if they’re aligned correctly, match the loudness of them and mix them

@@MikeRussell Thank you so much. I feel Ihave poorly presented my case. Apologies. Let's say I have 2 tracks (T1 & T2). Each track has clips C1, C2, ... Cn. So track one would be like T1C1, T1 C2, ... T1Cn; while track 2 would look like T1C1, T2C2, ...T2Cn. I would like to know how out of these two tracks, I could create a single track let' say T3 with the content in this order: T1C1, T2C1, T1C2, T2C2, ... T1Cn, T2Cn. Having a tip or a program to do it automatically is what I would need. Like kind of mashing up without music? With the volume of what I need, It would be unrealistic to do it manually. Any tip or other program that does such job to your knowledge? Thanks a lot.

What is your advice regarding the different mics that also pick up the other speakers. Is it a waste of time silencing the other speakers and isolating only the main speaker of that mic in their specific tracks?
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell 4 ай бұрын
It's important to choose the right microphone for the job to minimize bleed and background noise, but isolating the main speaker in their specific track can greatly improve the overall audio quality and post-production flexibility.
@snap-n-shoot
@snap-n-shoot 4 ай бұрын
@@MikeRussell Yes, thank you. It is what I do. When I record a podcast with 3 people or more and they are sitting around a table (We use the Podmics) I record each individual mic seperately along with a mixdown of them all. Each mic gets the full quality of its speaker but they will pick up a lower audible sound when others are speaking nearby. So I go through each of the speaker tracks and isolate only what they are saying. A bit tricky sometimes when they speak over each other but I tend to leave those as they can cancel each other out. I use the mixdown more as a reference once cutting and editing is being done. The only other challenge I face is when speakers say "eh" or long "ums", deep breaths and mouth clicks. Its easy to remove them using the Silence option in Audition but it is often audibly obvious that there is a hard silent compared to when they speak. Any better suggestions? I considered copying ambient noise from recording, which can work, but very tedious. Thanks again
@atlithoreinarsson

Hey Mike! I was wondering if there's a simple way to delete the "shared silence" between multiple tracks? Maybe with the new Strip / Split Silence feature in Multitrack? I know you did a tutorials a few years ago by combining tracks into a PolyWav file but I was hoping we'd get an updated (and hopefully simplified) workflow. Does Audition 2022 really not have a simple solution to this seemingly simple problem? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for the great content as always!

I often edit a track. For example, I tone down the reverb. But then, when I use the multitracker and save the final mixed version, Audobe Audition doesn't take over the edit I made to the initial track. If I go back to the track on its own, my changes are there and saved. It only fails with the multitracker. Can you help me solve this problem?

In order for your individual track edits to be applied in the multitracker, make sure to bounce or render your edited track before importing it into the multitracker.

Great video, just scratching the surface though. Imagine if you would put your knowledge to actually import an instrumental into the multitrack, arrange it according to your tastes and the needs of the song, record the vocals with a 200£ ~ 300£ condenser microphone in a treated mic both where the bass from the next door studio can easy find it's way into the vocals together with the headphone beat bleeding, clean the vocals by using de click, de ess/ de clipp/ de pop/ de ess/ de breath and noise reduction, compres, limit, eq the vocals and the beat if needed, gain stage, add verb delay and fx and then finally master it. If possible a drill, trap or boom bap song.

Hello Mike! Today I have try to record a friend in Adobe Audition and right away I have noticed 2 issues. Maybe a good idea for video from your side. 1. I cant find the option to use plugins while tracking, for example compressors or reverb. They simply refuse to work while tracking in Audition, why? And number 2. While we make one small take just to setup the levels, if I press play to can rehears the take, the level indicator on main vocal is gone,. It works only when it is recording or if it is on pause or stoped state, but not when play is selected. Interesting dont you think?
@MikeRussell

I'd recommend not using plugins while recording as they'll introduce latency to your recording. In fact I'd recommend direct monitoring from your interface or mixer

G'day Mike, thanks for all your Tips. I have a need to apply different effects (dynamics, eq, pan etc) to a multi song live band recording. The band has 4 lead vocals/harmonies, twin electric guitars and a pair of keyboardists. Depending on which singer, guitar or keys is taking the lead, I need to pan, compress, reverb and eq each song differently but cannot work out how to apply a separate mix to each track without having to create a separate project for each song. I have found that applying changes in the mix window affects the whole timeline. I will also be dealing a multi cam live video recording which will be edited and synced with the separate multitrack audio recording. In Premiere Pro I can split the video clip and apply different colour grading and audio effects within that clip. This does not affect the clips either side. Is there a way to split a multitrack recording into separate songs and apply different effects to each song within a single timeline/project?. I hope I make sense and look forward to learning something simple and basic that everyone else takes for granted. Cheers Michael

You could also split the tracks at the next song and drag those tracks down to their own separate tracks in the same project. Just make sure that you drag them on the timeline so that they don't play at the same time as the previous song. I hope that made sense.

hi Mike - ok, I do not like editing in multi track, as (1) any changes I make there are not reflected in the waveform, eg cut outs etc - the full track is still there in waveform, so when I do go there to fix noise, clicks (which I get MANY), etc I find it terribly confusing as the track I can see in waveform is NOT the same as the current one in the MUltitrack (which I just call Session). and (2) it has happened few times that when I toggle between the Session and the waveform (which I need to), some changes in the waveform are reflected different;y in the Session (eg some parts are missing,, clips are spliced in the wrong places etc.). This is probably too long a comment for one answer but I"m just in a middle of it and it's so frustrating! :-) Oh, one more thing - I believe that any section of the clip highlighted in the multitrack for corrections should show in the waveform - well, my doesn't. :-(

Changes made in the multitrack are not reflected in the original waveform, that's the way it's supposed to be.

You'd be better recording in Audition in the multitrack where you can record each mic on a seperate track to a separate file

Hi mike, please help me out! How can I can a pan a mono audio left to right or right to left using key frame in multitrack session? I know it's easy for stereo but how for mono?
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell Жыл бұрын
You can insert a mono file onto a stereo track and then use pan as you would with a stereo track

Awesome video! I'd love to fully edit my podcast in multitrack but I believe there's no way for me to remove background noise (such as the constant noise of AC or the noise of doors banging in the background) - is that correct? If so, I've watched a few of your videos where you edit this in waveform but for some reason as soon as I move to waveform, I can only see one track and I can't edit multiple tracks in waveform so I'm a bit stuck. Any suggestions?
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell Жыл бұрын
I would suggest that you want to be turning the AC off before recording. Always remove any noise you can at source before recording. You can however use noise reduction or DeNoise in multitrack but be aware it will reduce overall quality of your audio too.

Thanks Mike. Is it possible to save multiple tracks into one track once you have worked with the tracks? And if so how.
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell Жыл бұрын
You can move clips between tracks in the mutlitrack or you can mix down your multitrack session and save as a single file

How can you edit audio to isolate whispers? I have audio but traffic is so loud I cannot hear the voices
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell 2 ай бұрын
To isolate whispers from loud background noise like traffic in Adobe Audition I recommend using noise reduction tools like the Noise Reduction effect or spectral frequency editing to enhance the voices and reduce unwanted sounds effectively.

Hi Just subscribed. I am a new user to Audition and after using Premiere Pro I find it a lot different - it seems you can only normalise in waveform mode and if you want to vary the same track and normalise it to a different level - best I can see is you need to save the original wav file and then do a save as - its a pain and I find Premier a lot less cumbersome in this respect - any way around this? thanks
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell 2 жыл бұрын
You may wish to look at match clip loudness rather than normalising

Hi Mike, thanks so much for your endlessly helpful tips and tricks. I use Ripple Delete all the time, but ran into an issue - it doesn't delete automation on Bus groups. I've got FX such as Low Passes, Room Reverbs and lots more to emulate club scenes etc. The podcast has been split into 4 and I need to move things around on the timeline but unfortunately Ripple Delele wont allow this. have you got any tips and tricks for this please!?
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell Жыл бұрын
That's the way the software is designed. Track automations will never move with inserts and deletions, only clip automations but you obviously can't use a clip automation on a bus unfortunately.

Love the videos, Mike! I’ve got a question, though, about ripple delete / time selection delete: Is there a way of ‘syncing’ tracks to another track, so that ripple deleting the ‘master track’ applies to all tracks simultaneously? Say I ripple delete something in Track 1, which now misaligns everything after that point in the timeline in tracks 3 and 4. To avoid this, I’d ‘delete time selection in all tracks’, so everything afterwards gets pushed back, but I can’t because track 3 plays a clip at that time, which I don’t want deleted. Hope that makes sense :)

Look into creating a polywave which would allow you to achieve what you want

I have been having this problem in Adobe Audition where once I put an audio clip into the 6th track of a multitrack to layer the vocals (Or any track that exceeds the 5th track, I also have clips in the first 5 tracks), the audio of the whole session because terribly choppy/distorted and sounds awful , the tracks are different takes and are not the same audio file, but it is the same series of words with the same effects on them, just slightly tweaked, my computer should definitely be able to handle the effects I have on there at the moment, and I've tried changing my latency, Bit-rate, and Sample Rate, and nothing seems to be working, If you have any idea as to why this might be, your help would be greatly appreciated, Thank You!
