Dumping Adobe now would be wise but dumping Adobe back when they started leasing the software only was the right moment to do it. Abusive adobe should not be fed. Alternatives products exist, and are perfectly functional, but you do have to choose whether you’ll be enticed by a lure to your own demise or not. Using adobe products now is exactly like training your replacement after you’ve been told you’re being laid off.

In almost every single other case, shooting JPEG is just too much of a risk and severely limits your future potential such as for noise removal with things like DXO or Topaz. For example, I can go back and process older raws and simply do noise removal, no other tweaks, and have drastically better results than if I had just shot to JPEG.

What shocks me most about the Adobe situation, now just because of what happened but also because people aren't pointing and talking more about this, is that Adobe acted as a ransomware virus. They withhold the user content until the user agreed with their new terms, giving them ownership. It's absurd, they stole from users!

The X-S20 is in my opinion the most versatile camera Fujifilm makes today. It's really good for photography and great for video, especially for the price. 6K open gate, raw recording externally, IBIS, FLog 1 and 2, it brings a lot to the table and could easily be useful for a beginner as well as a professional on a tighter budget.

You may not know but Adobe disclaimer blog stop at section 4.1 and dont talk about 4.2 for a reason. A royalty-free sublicense in Section 4.2 means they don't own the image but can sell it with NO OBLIGATION to pay the owner. What does it matter who owns it if they have infinite rights that are BETTER than the owner's? And take into account their right to: + reproduction, + public display, + publicly perform, + distribute, + modify, + creat derivative work base on your content . That's alot of power over the customer content or even more. - Edit: They states that the license is solely for the purpose of operating the software. But never say AI image generator is not part of those "software". Which mean the license still open up for them to train their AI generator with user's data
@angelamaloney4871
@angelamaloney4871 2 ай бұрын
You forgot to mention some things. First of all, section 4.2 specifically states that the license is solely for the purpose of operating the software. In other words, we use the software to modify an image and we grant them a license to provide the requested modification. Section 4.3 then goes on to very expressly note that Adobe does not claim ownership of its users work. I’m no longer practicing law, but I am an attorney. So I put that hat on and actually read the TOS. I came away from it being puzzled by why people are so upset.

@@angelamaloney4871 So are you sure that "the software" of Adobe doesn't including their AI or any kind of AI image generator? I guess not. That aslo make the action of training their AI generator can be qualify as "the purpose of operating the software" aswell You dont need owner ship to use image to train AI just a royalty-free sublicense 'll be enough for that. As other AI on the market already train on the image they dont own with no consequence,

95% of photographers don't change cameras too often and don't buy/test new cameras right after release, so ultra fast software update to support every new body is not necessary for most people. I've pointed to Capture One before, I always point out the fact that you don't get updates, and I don't think that's an issue UNLESS you have to have the newest equipment on day one all the time. For YOU as reviewers, yes, that's an issue, but for almost everyone else, they're buying a new camera and the software at the same time or AFTER they bought the camera. As for FEATURE updates, sure, you might want a new feature that they announce, but that doesn't diminish the usefulness of what you previously bought. The only time the lack of updates is an issue, and this is a BIG issue, is when there is program breaking bug, which is really shitty, but also generally shouldn't be an issue.

I do think a lot of the Leica "glow" comes from the poor (or non-existent) coatings of their much older lenses that led to halation and other strange contrast issues. It's important to note that Leica was renowned for their lenses way back when 35mm format (a very small format at the time) was fairly new and sharp lenses weren't nearly as available for it. Some older Leica lenses have no coatings at all, and I can definitely see the difference when shooting a 5cm f2 Summar from 1937 versus a Canon 50mm f1.9 Serenar from the early 50s with a very similar double-gauss optical design.

About testing lenses for defects: I used the program MTF mapper to test just center sharpness on a Fuji 150-600. Based on the results I sent it back to the dealer and got one that has about 2x the MTF50. Took me about a week to test this out at home (even though I worked with optics as physicist for a few years). What lens rentals says in their blog, which I also recommend for little of background and solid data, is that you'll immediately recognize a bad sample and all others are good enough, even with some variation. I disagree slightly: I think a 50% span in MTF50 at the very high level of today's glass is ok, but beyond that is a bit much, even if it's not immediately obvious (what's "obvious" anyways?). I also don't get the argument of "our numbers have been misused, so we don't publish them", which I read as the main argument. Maybe I misunderstood something there, I sure hope so. Still, I'd prefer seeing them again.

Regarding Adobe... we've long been at the point where Adobe can do whatever they want. They have done that for over a decade and they will continue to do so. As you said it yourself, the public outcry on social media will change exactly nothing. They extract the maximum amount of 'value' for their investors, and they can do that because the absolute vast majority of people won't switch and can't switch. All the professionals have accepted the TOS right away... what else would you do? Tell your client to wait another 3 months until you can recreate the job on some other software package that has really just been trying to superficially copy whatever adobe did? The only way to fix this is by financing and building up competitors that do their own thing - and I have doubts that will happen. Adobe has been at the forefront of doing these shady changes in the past and everyone else watched and did the same thing a year later *cough cough autodesk*

I'm an enthusiast photographer, and I've had an Adobe PS & LR subscription for many years. In that time I've toyed with several alternatives, my favourite (PS replacement) so far is Affinity Photo. If Affinity came out with a LR competitor tomorrow, I'd likely switch without much hesitation. It would be a painful process but for my needs & budget, I'd stay with it until it payed off.

Chris has me thinking that the X-S20 is a better back up camera for my X-H2S for event photography. It seems to be the same handling. I've been using the X-T30II but the switching back and forth is making me nutty! I can instead save the X-T30II of my street work only. I love this show!! I do feel like the three of you are my photog buddies!

100% agree with this take about Adobe. There just aren’t artists working there and there’s not a Steve Jobs type of person trying to make a good tool for artists.

Adobe has shown contempt towards it's customers for years. Many of us stuck with them because we were comfortable with Lr and PS. It's time to leave, starting over and learning a new application is going to be hard but, if I don't, that just gives this company the go ahead to push the boundaries. No more subscription model based software for me.

It is not only products like Adobe that are gathering data from users. The whole OS (in the case of windows) does that. It bothers me soo much that I went Debian since they made TPM obligatory in windows 11... that is just nonsense. Linux is not for everybody but oh boy, for those of us that embraced the change, it is so much enjoyable to use.

All this VR lensing will be of specific value to e-girls and adult production houses wanting to build a portfolio of immersive video experiences. The lower price of being able to do it with a cropped body will be attractive. I might even go and get one to try spatial video walkabout content. I do not have the figure to be an e-girl anymore.

Question about a cine lens. I have 4 cine lenses, all Samyang/Rokinon (not the high end Zine). One of them has/had a quirk that the aperture ring would not correctly engage on the mounting flange, so if I stopped down, it would automatically slowly rotate back to fully open... like a photographer's poltergeist. I shoot mostly nighttime, so having it wide open was fine - I would just use gaffer's tape to hold to a narrower aperture if needed. Nikon F mount. It would only happen on my D600, but not on my D5300. I'm curious what mechanisms are in place that engage with a node or lever or whatever, such that I would have this issue with only one lens and only on one camera. This is no longer an issue because I have upgraded to mirrorless for my main camera, and the lens apparently engages fully with the FTZ adapter flange. But I can't let things go, so I still want to figure out what was occurring. I did attempt to contact Samyang, but the crickets are still chirping. I don't shoot cinematography/video. I'm just a cheap bastard who bought two cine lenses because they were on sale, and I liked how they performed, so I eventually bought two more.

I’ve just sold my GFX 100ii as the lens range is just too limiting. No real Astro photography lenses and the holes in the range. The AF still to slow and unreliable for any real world movement. It reminded me of a Sony A7r3 style focusing. A real shock after using a Sony A1 for a while. The electric shutter scans far to slowly with so weird artifices in photos.

Enterprises companies have been way ahead here. GDPR, CCPA and FTC privacy regulations have for over five years made global companies extremely sensitive to consumer privacy rights. Seems pretty clear that the Adobe Imaging product management team doesn't have real world regulatory experience. They would be better served to upgrade their teams with Enterprise people. Heck Adobe sells a product called Adobe Enterprise Manager that allows multinational companies to centrally manage privacy across all digital assets in the portfolio. Again Imaging product management seems to be operating as a stove pipe. Just give consumers the choice first because everyone can predict how the EU and California will respond.

I agree RAW photo editing is the hardest Adobe software to replace, despite having the most consumer options. Still, subscribing to only the Lightroom plan is better than everything. Then use Affinity and Davinci.

its really not, try darktable its free and a more advanced software then Lightroom yes there is a learning curve but in the end you get amazing results, insane masking options on every module, able to blend layers, use modules multiple times and still be able to mask etc or place in different order etc, only issue we have to wait for new camera raw file support

Fuji makes a lot of models, they don't make a lot of cameras. If they did, then there wouldn't be a shortage on basically every model released besides the polarizing Xpro3 (that I have and quite like, just wish it had IBIS for full manual lenses).

Adobe showed what side of The Force they were using when the acquired Macromedia ostensibly to acquire Flash ... but really to kill FreeHand. It wasn't enough to own type; they had to own ALL of the creative graphics industry. And that shows what they're ultimately all about -- it's never enough. That might as well be their mission statement.

Just so you are aware...there are two formats in Apple Vision Pro Spatial Video: What you can shoot with the AVP or the iPhone, you open the video, its a square with depth. Uses Canon + Final Cut Pro + Vimeo for workflow. Immersive Video: Professional format for content distribution. All current videos in Apple TV+ are in this format. It is an 8k 180 degree video format. Uses BlackMagic Ursa Cine Immersive + Resolve Studio + Apple Compressor for workflow.

Hi Jaron, I too recently purchased the Nikon Zf with the 40mm lens. I love the camera! I did also purchase the SmallRig grip which is a very nice addition to the body. As a Canon shooter, I looked into lens adapter and found a surprisingly good one, the Megadap EFTZ21 PRO. It seems to work well with my old EF 400 5.6L lens and my EF 16-35 F4L IS. Note that it will not focus well with my Tamron 100-400. The jury is still out but it’s seems to be a nice stop gap while you flesh out your Nikon lens collection. You may want to check out and review this adapter. One quirk, completely removed the adapter from the lens and body when changing lenses. For some reason, as noted on the Megadap website, not doing so may cause autofocus issues. Love the podcast guys, keep up the great work!

Big tech companies are all in on the AI thing and don't give a damn about the repercussions. None of them will "do better". They will always choose profit over their users, ethics, or anything else. It's sad, because tech used to be so cool. But I guess like everything, it's being coopted to reinforce existing power structures.

Probably controversial, but Fujifilm needs to slim down it's line up to 1 SLR style and 1 Range Finder style per tier: GFX100II / GFX100R X-H2 / X-Pro 4 X-S20 / X-E5 X100VI Currently we have too many X-H2 cameras, with one entry level mini version of it in the X-S20 also. He X-T5 and X-T50 seem like a pointless middle ground between modern PSAM SLR style and retro Exposure Triangle dial Range Finder style. The X-Pro 4 should be the pro photo option, with the X-H2 being the pro hybrid option. The X-S20 should be the entry vlogger option with a flip out screen and tally light, with the X-E4 being the compact travel, family doc, and snap option with a flip up selfie screen. IBIS on everything, and update that 2019 AF already. 😂

Thanks. I think Fuji's done a good job segmenting their line of cameras. The X-T line for pure photographers, who shoot videos occasionally. Tilting Screen is THE BEST screen for photographers who love the art and craft of photography. The X-H line for hybrid shooter, who shoot a lot of videos. Fully articulated screen.

How much is IBIS really needed. I shoot over 90% outdoors. I rarely shoot under 1/125 sec. When I do shoot indoors, light is adequate and I have no problem bumping the ISO. I do all my processing in RAW. I use the Topaz AI Trio if I need to enhance the images more. IBIS would be nice, but I do not think it is necessary for me. I think the Fuji Xt30II would be more than suitable. I am a LONG Enthusiast from film days (Robert from Deadmonton)

I absolutely love my GFX 50SII. I use it for portraiture and to make use of my beautiful Mamiya 645 lenses. Therefore, I couldn't justify the extra price of the 100, simply because I didn't need or want the higher resolution.(edit) In addition, I generally shoot tethered and the transfer speed from the 50 is significantly faster than the 100 that was available at the time.

I highly recommend you use the SmallRig grip for the Zf, it is technically usable without, but it feels much better with a grip. There are several options but the SR one I know is good. Edit: also I highly recommend trying out some old Nikon glass. There are some amazing focus assist features, both on the K, AI, etc. lenses but also on the D series lenses you get subject tracking with focus confirmation which is incredibly useful.
