Realistically! The new F1 car is way too heavy and has proven to be seriously fundamentally flawed! The 18in. wheel and tires combination do not have the same cantilever effect in the turns as the traditional 13in.! Plus tire deg wasn't this bad of a problem like it is now...

Because he’s Lewis Hamilton and has the most wins and tied for the most championships ever. The only driver to break the 100 barrier in poles and wins. There is a different standard tied to his name. You can’t praise him to the heavens and then get mad when he’s being criticized. Everything boils down to a team sport besides say tennis and golf. When an elite football or basketball player is being criticized it’s often their team and not their individual performance. Same is the case with Hamilton.

I’ve been watching F1 for over 30 years, and I’ve become obsessed with its history as well. The FIA has killed this sport with its technical regulations and because of this (and not specifically because of Max’s driving brilliance) nothing will change at all until 2026 at the earliest. It’s not a matter of talent, power of will or universal justice. It’s a simple matter of technical certainty. If you can’t engineer a revolution from race to race (like in the 1970s) you’re doomed to suffer through the certainty of predictable results. Like Lewis and Nico dominating the first few years of the turbo hybrid era. It’s in the bag - enjoy the WEC for a couple years and check in to see if the RB/Ford partnership sinks as quickly as the Jaguar adventure did in the early 2000s.

I agree who wants to watch cars slower than F2 not me. They need to turn up the power somehow. 2000 hp with a combo of electric and combustible fuel. Big problem F1 needs to solve or lose all fans. Bad enough we have to stomach the Verstappen car procession era.

I seriously don't see the point of the new PUs in 2026 aside from the removal of the mgu-h. Which they could just do with the current PUs. Had they not lock the engine development cycle, I think we could have seen the PUs making over 1000hp. In a few years, battery cell development will certainly ramp up, F1 teams could use that technology to improve the energy store that would help them to last longer than a lap of qualifying when at full power. Longer lasting energy stores can drive the team to get more powerful electric motors that can be lighter with development and boom, we could see probably 1100hp or 1200hp PUs in these cars. However this path is suitable if they choose to stick with the current big F1 cars.

However if they want to make the cars smaller I think a better solution for me is to shrink the car to the actual scale of the size they use in their wind tunnels, which is 60% of the actual car size. That way we don't have to be hearing issues about simulation correlation issues and BS thrown out here and there by teams. Whatever gains you see in computer would translate to real life a lot simpler

I would say that with the ‘drive to survive’ fans coming into the sport, though they are not all bad, they have helped create an idea of recency bias to quite an extreme degree. the ‘Hamilton is washed’ argument is a great example of this; 6 months ago Hamilton finished p3 in the driver standing against some tough competition comparatively (mclaren, ferrari, aston, obviously red bull). obviously one knows that as a driver ages, their performances gradually decline. But with Hamilton having such a strong season last year with a difficult car, and some amazing race finishes where Russell was nowhere in comparison, take Austin for example, For that ability to have dissipated so quickly would mean Hamilton must have spent the last 6 months eating potato chips on the couch and watching Netflix. Which, obliviously he hasn’t. It always is more complex than fans and media like to boil it down to. Hamilton is unmotivated by a obviously poor car, frustrated by seeing ferrari so far up the road and knowing what he’s missing out on it this year. whereas his 14 year younger teammate Russell only needs to beat Hamilton to convince himself that he is number 1 and has had a great season. Psychology in sport is always a massive factor in sport, not just pure physical ability. He is obviously physically still very capable, maybe not at his ABSOLUTE peak performance but the did hasn’t lost all his skill in 6 months. It’s a question of his mental state impacting performances.
