I can save you money! To degrease the cores just use plain 70% isopropyl alcohol rubbing alcohol from Walmart. 90% works and drys quicker but costs too much. I use the rubbing alcohol to clean and degrease works fine. Can add drops of soap for very heavy but rinse with the pure.

Some of the really old black powder rifles were that big. Also there are people who are licensed to make prototype canon projectiles.

Not so much faster but way cheaper. The only problem I have found with casting cores is finding soft enough lead to work with. Wheel weights are about the limit....I prefer the tape on weights...those are pure lead.

If you're going to boil them to remove the grease make sure you don't use a cooking pot. Somehow I doubt you'd ever get all the lead out.

From what I understand if you hear lead up hot enough and keep skimming it you can remove a lot of the antimony from it
@ammosmith4 жыл бұрын
Yes. You can use sulfur to remove copper and potassium nitrate to remove antimony

Ammosmith Reloading so if this is true then would it be worth it for making projectiles ????? Also when are you gonna drop some more videos. I love your channel everything you have done is extremely interesting.

@@Johnny-jr2lq if you'r e casting the hardness of the lead only matters with pressure and therefore I will use Linotype for my 44 mag. As for swaging...the lead has to be soft. A hardness of bhn 6-8 and no more otherwide you can damage the dies and press.

@@Johnny-jr2lq oon I hope. I've been busy moving around and working. So...cost. Making jacketed bullets for say the 5.56 using rimfire brass for jackets I can make a loaded round for about 13 cents per round.

If I understand correctly, one could get a stronger core swagging die and, using lead shot, make custom frangible ammo, is that correct?

I think pure lead cast cores will be faster, cheaper, and more efficient then cutting lead wires.

I cast my sluggs first from raw lead then swage them

Would powder blast by Break Free work for degreasing the cores? What about, Simple green degreaser also.
@ammosmith4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't try it. I use 90% rubbing alcohol . Some chemicals may affect the jacket material.
