Filament winding is a method of composites manufacture that involves a wind arm traveling up and down the length of a rotating mandrel dispensing rovings of carbon, fiberglass, aramid or other composite materials. The carbon fibers are impregnated with a resin and autoclave cured for a hollow composite structure of incredible strength and durability.
Advanced Composites Inc. has over two decades experience in filament winding. The Advanced Composites Inc filament winding facility is located in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. Advanced Composites Inc. uses our filament winding expertise to manufacture carbon fiber tubes, fiberglass tubing, and other high-grade composite structures.
Using our filament winding technology, Advanced Composites Inc. manufactures composite structures for defense, carbon fiber prosthetics, fiberglass tubing for energy extraction, carbon fiber aerospace components, carbon tubes for medical applications, aramid composite structures for ballistics and other military uses, and many other types of filament wound composite products.
All Advanced Composites Inc filament winding technicians receive extensive training in the art and science of filament winding, including lay-up patterns, filament combinations, resin formulation, and much more. Additionally, the Advanced Composites Inc quality control department tracks the composite structures across a variety of metrics during and after the filament winding process.
For our excellence in filament winding, Advanced Composites Inc. was awarded the 2014 Utah Manufacturer of the Year award by the Utah Manufacturers Association.
Advanced Composites Inc. mixes our own proprietary resins for use in our filament winding processes. Each resin system is customized for the specific material properties that each composite structure needs to have.
Filament winding makes up the bulk of the Advanced Composites Inc. manufacturing output, although we also manufacture composite structures using compression molding and layup processes. Advanced Composites Inc. also has a strong engineering and design department for modeling and prototyping new composite structures.
