Ever have trouble making your stitches look nice, flat, and even, especially if you have to make jumps in between them? This video will show you a couple things to think about to choose the best path possible between your stitches to keep them looking as if you hadn't made a jump at all.

If I can add another helpful tip -- if you make a jump, I always anchor my thread with a neighboring stich to make my square look even, then I make the jump. I also, ALWAYS anchor my thread through stiches along the back, trying not to expose the colored thread through the fabric of unstitched areas. Hope this helps as well! :-) Happy Stitching!

My biggest problem is getting my stitches to lay even. I find some of them look like they're higher than others

Thank you! I'm doing a pattern right now that has a lot of skipping around, and couldnt figure out why my stitches look stretched in a weird direction.

Would you be willing to film another one of these videos, explaining it a bit further? I’m having difficulty knowing what to do when I’m traveling down and left with my thread, and I’d be grateful if you would be willing to share how you tackle that. Thank you for your time. 🩷

🤔I HAVE A QUESTION 🙋🏼‍♀️ I SAW YOU COME UP THE TOP OF TGE LEFT OF TGE SQUARE AND THRN GO TO THE BOTTOM RIGHT??? I GO BOTTOM LEFT TO TOP RIGHT THEN BOTTOM RIGHT TO TOP LEFT IS THIS IN CORRECT?? Thanks for any advice or a video link would be okay too… Thank you very helpful to know I’m a hide the thread cut and move to next one Although I’m still new to cross stitching and have done this when there’s only a color left a few stitches over haha 😂

Hi; just now seeing your comment. I also go from bottom left to top right, then bottom right to top left. Either way though, as long as you are consistent and always cross with the same direction on top, your stitches will look even and uniform. If you're talking about the part at 2:56, I explain why I did in from the top right instead. The part at the very end where I go from top left to bottom right is actually the second stitch of that cross; unfortunately the grey color blends in really well with the fabric so you can't tell that's the top thread/second half of the cross.

Won’t the thread eventually come loose from jumping so far between stitches?

Not with counted cross stitch; the work gets its stability from the fabric itself. With needlepoint, the direction of the stitching on the back matters more.

@@GameCrafts hello! what's the difference between counted cross stitch and needlepoint? sorry, i'm a beginner 😅
@GameCrafts
@GameCrafts 4 жыл бұрын
@@alexisx4368 Needlepoint is typically done with yarn, and the front looks like just diagonal slashes instead of an "x" for each stitch. But it isn't the same as just doing half of the cross stitch; you can google "tent stitch" to see the difference in technique. You make more of a "z" shape on the back side with that style of stitching, and in cross stitching, your back would look like just vertical lines if you do everything properly for a solid color block.

You're not really supposed jump more than 4-5 stitches away. If you do, you increase your chances of your fabric puckering when you frame. If you keep your fabric really tight in your hoop or frame, you lessen the chances of puckering, though.

How many stands do you use for cross stitching?
@GameCrafts
@GameCrafts 4 жыл бұрын
It depends on what count fabric you are stitching on; I typically use 2 stands on 16 or 18 count, and either 2 or 3 strands on 14 count, depending if I want a lighter or fuller look. On this video, I am using 2 strands on 14 count.
