Hi James, The alignment of the anchor in the further back position allows when necessary to put more energy and line into the D loop, but it has to be straight in order to be efficient. When we transition round, accelerate and incline into the D loop the line is automatically peeled back into the the correct direction. I use this cast often without any problems and find it great, we can control where the anchor lands in various ways by shifting the position/size of the rotation which is helpful when using longer or shorter lines. There is a lot of times when we have to alter angles and position of the line on the water surface to suit different situations or obstructions and that is what I like about this cast. With the conventional Double Spey there are limitations as to what shape we can make our line on the waters surface as we sweep up stream ( I always try and manufacture a curve in the line when I do this as I want to avoid any straight lines ) however by using the method in the video I can make any adjustments I need to. Of course I still use the standard Double Spey but I like to use this cast in certain situations.
