Course: www.tofluency.... (inside the complete version, you will find materials based on this lesson)
KEY PHRASES FROM THE LESSON
- we are being quite ambitious
- we have brought our daughter along with us
- It’s flown by, hasn’t it?
- how many vacations have we been on since we’ve been here.
- I think a lot of times we end up traveling to visit family
- to get away from it all
- why don’t you tell everyone about our latest vacation?
- we met up with your parents and sister
- we had more of a beach vacation
- it didn’t really feel like Christmas
- There were park rangers passing out / giving out free sunglasses
- we are thinking about going away this summer
- I have always wanted to travel to somewhere different
- We nearly went while we were living in Spain
- That was the time to go
- I mean, I think that once you start a family…
- Take advantage of this time right now
- We’ve been talking a lot with our son about koala bears and kangaroos
- I would love to travel around Asia as well
- I haven’t been to anywhere in Asia.
- You have been all the way down to Patagonia
- And he got excited about that
- I don’t really know, to be honest
- I remember being in my mum’s arms
- I remember seeing our neighbor
- Are you gonna remember this?
- She’ll have the video to look back on
- it used to take us 3 days to get to the south of France
- we would spend about two weeks there.
- they had sports going on
- there was a big heat wave
- that’s what I remember about it
- that’s something that we take for granted
- it doesn’t get that hot
- my family and family friends would rent a house on an island
- we would drive and take a ferry out to the island
- we would grill seafood at night
- my mom actually grew up going there when she was a kid too
- when was the first time you went abroad?
- do you remember?
- my father actually passed away when I was in college
- Do you remember the journey?
- it was the most exciting thing that had ever happened to me
- ... the novelty of everything - being able to look out an airplane window
- my uncle used to fly back and forth
- I’m getting confused
- we got bumped up to first class
- have you seen some of those recent pictures
- it just looks incredible
- that would make flying with small children worth it.
- Yeah, no, definitely.
- it’s hard, isn’t it, with small children
- you just never know what you’re going to get
- You mentioned Morocco before as an ideal place to go on vacation.
- I was gonna.
- I was thinking about this while we’ve been having this discussion
- When I went traveling, I was on my own. I had a tiny backpack.
- Oh, so much easier on my own.
- I was worried that you were going to say that.
- When you are on your own, you have your stuff and that’s it.
- if you’re like you just don’t want to talk to someone
- if you wanna be outgoing, you can meet other people
- it’s more fun traveling with someone
- You get to share your experiences
- Shall we wrap it up?
- I’ve put you on the spot
DISCUSSION
We used 'remember' a lot in this video. We also used 'used to' and 'would't to talk about the past.
What about you. Where would you go if you could go anywhere? And do you prefer to take a lot of things with you or travel light?

Hi, Jack, I started to watch your videos since I watched one called "You Will NEVER Think in English if You Don't Do This!". About memories, I was impressed! To have memories when you're 6 months old is actually amazing! I have lots of memories of my uncle who died when I was only 2 years old. That made me google this right now, and I found this: "Kids begin forming explicit childhood memories around the 2-year mark, but the majority are still implicit memories until they're about 7."

Hello teacher Jack, what a beautiful family you have. Both have many anecdotes of your trips abroad. If I could travel anywhere in the world, I would travel to Korea. I think it's a different country with another culture so different than mine. I would like to go there for a long time, I mean for a couple of months to give me the opportunity to know everything about the country. I'd rather to travel light because it much better and I feel more confortable. thanks for the video I enjoyed watching it.

Hello to both of you. You are right. In 2000, I went in Islas Canarias for Christmas and it was so strange To wear sunglasses and sing Christmas songs surrounding by Sun and heat. By the way, when I was seven old, I spent my holidays in Canet- Plage, in a house located on the sand in the middle of a Beach, owned by a friend of my granfather who lent it to my parents. At that time, this place was quite wild and they were many Gypsy men living on the Beach. For your holidays, I suggest you spend them in the Basque Country, the south west of France, close to Spain. You would eat pinchos and bask in Sun, maybe your young son could take up on surf , among many others activities.

If I had the opportunity to choose a country to go and not think at all about money, I would choose several countries actually, because It´s hard to pick up one when you have so many places that you want to go, but Iceland was the first country that crossed my mind, because I like nature and volcanos. I would travel light, that´s what I do every time I travel with a backpack, because that saves weight.

Very interesting video! Thank you for sharing for us this! It was so nice to listen to both of you, you are both peaceful persons. Well, I downloaded your book "the 5 step..." because I have an intermediate nivel and I must have an advance nivel till this summer for my internship, thus I started watching ur videos as you mentionned us on ur book 😊 To respond to your questions: 1- If I have to choose one place to travel to it would be machu Pichu in Peru. It's a great place to discover as much as to know more about its history. 2- for the bucket-list, I didn't get it what this means 3- I prefer taking a lot of stuff while traveling then I make sure I have everything on me and I wouldn't buy many things so I'll spend less. Thank you so much again, I'm waiting for another video so I can learn more about!
