I have tried a lot of commercial anti rust preperations. When using oil and the film is thick water Sometimes even floats the oil up and rusts underneath the oil. When shop dust settles on the oil you have put on metal to prevent rust , it eventually hardens up and creates a "skin" that is quite protective. My location in western Ohio USA........ When a machine has to be stored outdoors under a tarp water resistant grease ....the kind auto stores sell for boat trailer wheel bearings..........smeared on all exposed steel has worked well for me.

Hi Cliff. Excellent work as always. You asked for a possible suggestion on corrosion protection for metal surfaces. As a colleague machinist I full appreciate the conundrum, most of our outside work is based in the marine industry. We use a product called BoShield T9 to prevent corrosion. It’s produced by Boeing to prevent corrosion on aircraft. We have used it with great success, NOTE: It can leave a waxy surface. I/we have no affiliation with Boeing, just a FYI for a possible solution. Cheers and take care, from Salt Spring Island Canada. Ron.

Hi Ron. Thanks for comments from Canada! Just looked up the price of T9 in NZ ...ouch! It must be good! Cheers Cliff

Awesome video, buddy! That's the way to do it! Start with a walk through of the finished product, dive into the challenges, and then hit us with the challenges in action. Love it!

Keep up the good work Cliff. I just made a few Aluminium Cylindrical Squares on my lathe so chasing micron tolerances has been fun.

Hi Cliff. A quick follow up. I’m not sure what your cost is in NZ, there’s a 29mil bottle available here for about $6.50 and larger spray for about $30.00 CAD. If you would like and I would be happy to do so, I can send you the 29mil bottle, aerosol is probably out of the question as it’s likely dangerous cargo by air. Let me know if this is something you would like persue, we can chat via email. Cheers and best regards. Ron.

Hi Ron! People like you restore my faith in human nature! A 340g aerosol in NZ is NZ$73.60 that's about US$50.00. We have a real overpricing problem here because of the small population and lack of competition. Very kind of you to offer to help, but I don't want to become a hassle for you. Leave it with me at this stage and I will look into different supplier options. Cheers! Cliff

Hi dude, you said you run a dehumidifier. Do you run a digital humidity gauge to know your averages and extremes? My machine room sits between 30 and 45% humidity. Works for me. And the only coolant I use is straight oil or wd40.

Hi Scotty. I think you have identified an issue. The southerly ex the sea slams into my workshop some days and gets in around the doors - I bet when that happens the dehumidifier cannot cope. Cheers Cliff

WD40 should work. WD in WD40 stands for Water Displacement.
