That would be a great set up for squirrel hunting, you have the perfect set up for cooking squirrels while out hunting. I got to have some Texas Pete hot sauce in my cook set lol.

Our household has always used salted butter and it has been kept in our butter dish on the counter, never in the refrigerator. We keep one stick out and the rest in the fridge. You are correct, it has to be lightly salted and I am not sure how long it will last at room temp, we go through it pretty quick. Love your videos, just recently found you, stay well and I may be interested in your "silver" programs. I am 61 and have not been camping in over 45 years. Recently retired and would love to do it again.

Hey Blackie- Its good to be organized and your cook set and items are all in one bag. This way, your not looking around here and there for that tabasco. Your point on immersion cooking is great for keeping your pots clean and I like the idea of the tent stakes as a quick easy platform. Thanks for another good video and also for all the tips and tricks you talk about. Be safe out there Blackie-

Blackie you might want to make a trip to the dollar store and get you a throw away baking sheet/pan and make a wind screen for the set out of it! that baking sheet is heavy duty tin foil and will hold up a good long while while not taking up much space! you might want to look at the glitter shakers there too if they have the larger ones they make a nice for salt and pepper shakers! if you ever use an esbit of coughlin pocket stove, get one of those little slip top tins they down from those little glass bottles, you can sit one of those in the stove and fill it with hand sanitizer, that makes a nice little alcohol stove! a damn sight cleaner than those fuel tabs!

I keep one of these cook kits in the 4x4. Waxed canvas bag, 3 or 4 of those large screw top tins with dehydrated lentils, instant rice, dehydrated veggies, coffee - they nest in a bushpot with an msr pocket rocket and butane canister, with room for whatever I may wish to add. If you run a firebox stove you can get by in all 4 seasons.

👍👍👍 a nice setup. There are many variations on this theme and I play around with them .. each having its own specific advantages. My current setup is a home-made roll-top bag made of lightweight PVC-Coated (on the inside) Cotton / Canvas. Inside, I stack a SS GSI Pot, SS Mug, Tuna Can Pot Stand / Windscreen (sides perforated for good air flow) Pot Lid made from a Tin Can Lid using a bolted-on metal Picture Hanger as the handle and a 800ml (27 Oz) SS Klean Kanteen Water Bottle. A folding Tripod Stand made from SS Bicycle Spokes and Aluminium Ferrules, Cook Cutlery and other odds and sods all fit nicely inside the bag. Additional water .. I generally reuse Plastic Soda Pop and Mouthwash Bottles that can be stuffed in everywhere .. the Stainless Steel Components of the Cook Set Bag catering for the treatment of Feral Water. I prefer to keep my edibles in a soft 'Butt Pack'. Had it for ages .. back from the early 80's. The waist band adjusts to be able to hang it almost anywhere and when empty / not in use, it folds up for easy storage. Serves nicely too as a 'forage bag'. Thanks for sharing. Always something in your posts regarding new ideas and/or, an opportunity to do some lateral thinking. Take care ..

Great video! Love the butter dish. I learned from Tim Ferriss about simmering a frozen chicken breast in a zip loc bag. 80 minutes. Never dry. Coincidentally, a baked potato takes the same time.

Good ideas. Another nice spice carrier is a shotgun choke case with the plastic tubes. I have a few old 8 mm film canisters that are like yours and have screw on lids. Thanks for reminding me that Bisquick goes back to 1931 and so works for classic camping as well.

I just purchased a Stanley Pro Cookware set for the outdoors. This set is two HUGE pots and a frying pan that has a coliner top for all three pieces. Plus, this set comes almost complete with utensils. This is NOT a carry around kind of set. It is more for Basecamp. I also bought two sets of survival cooking ware, one set is bigger than the other. Each set came with an emergency butane burner no bigger than a zippo lighter. They are really making strides in the survival industries

Nice kit. I really like your tent stake technique, very practical., I’m going to use it. One thing, I’ll scuff the top of the tent stakes with a file so they grip the pot better. For spices I always carry a little cayenne and curry, for both a little will go a long way and will definitely kick up a meal. 😊

Thanks Blackie I like the idea of those three tent Stakes that is cool. What I'd really like to know is where you got that little container you said you could put butter or lard in, I really do like that thing. I hope you'll let me know. Coalcracker Bushcraft just started selling those canvas containers like you have actually I think he just started yesterday with three different colors tan green and orange I don't know if you watch coalcracker or not but he has some pretty cool little tools for the toolbox and speaking of tools for the toolbox I know you're good friends with James on Waypoint survival I love watching that Feller. Stay safe Blackie and stay vigilant!

The Foldacups are great pieces of kit, thought the fold would eventually give when I first got one but no, they just keep on going. I'd had a half idea along the Bisquick line, got in a job lot of army catering powdered egg and will eventually see what I can do with it. Very much liked the repurposing in your kit, it sets a great example that you don't have to buy in everytime you need something.

I used to put a slight kink in the side of the can, continuously rotate in fire, watch carefully for kink to pop out, then shake can vigorously, to mix the heat through, before opening. If the ends of the can begin to expand too much, take it out asap, as they can explode, sending scalding food everywhere. Happened to a friend who didn't keep a close watch on it. got scalded too, went off like a bomb, sounded like a shotgun blast. Works great on small gas stoves too, saves on washing dishes, lol.
