Using Google Maps On Apple CarPlay Stereo Systems
A quick run through of how the new Google Maps looks and feels on any vehicle that has Apple CarPlay Installed. You'll get full traffic info on display, high resolution satellite mapping and really easy to use search function with Siri Support.
Once you have updated your iPhone to the latest iOS 12 (Released 17/08/18) and the latest Google Maps iOS App you will then have full Google Maps displaying and working on your stereo system.
When you go to Add Destination and select Other you can type your own search or postcode :)
As part of the latest iOS 12 update, Apple has unlocked 3rd party navigation apps to be used on their CarPlay System. Google was the first to release and Waze has now just been released. You can watch our Review / How To video on the link below:

I’ve just bought an Audi A6 (the latest version of old model), I have smartphone interface and I noticed that when I insert a destination in google maps (using smartphone interface), in the cockpit disappears maps and appears a quite boring and useless compass. In the MMI display it’s showed the map of Google maps. Is that normal? I would like to have maps showed in both displays (MMI and cockpit).

I need an answer, when playing waze or google maps on carplay, they must be shown on my iphone, when i minimize them on my iphone they also minimize on my carplay, can i let the maps show on carplay and use my phone freely?

I'm trying out google maps through car play, apple maps keeps overriding google and when I operate the sound control on my steering wheel apple maps comes on the screen.

I just got a car with Apple CarPlay, and I'm so new to it. This video helps a lot. I do have a question though, if I were to delete the Apple Maps app (because I want to use Google Maps), would Siri be able to automatically load up directions through Google Maps?

it doesn't change to night mode for me, i have appradio 4. is it supposed to be time based like apple maps?

Can't watch as at work but can you enter a postcode directly ? with apple maps you have had to have already done the search on your phone so that it is in your recent destinations. ie you can't do it whilst connected to the car. thanks

This Audi doesn't have a touchscreen sadly so I had to use the MMI Controller to spin through. When you go to Add Destination, you simply select OTHER and then it allows you to choose letters and numbers etc. I didn't show it off fully as didn't want the video to go on too long. But it's there and works. I very much doubt it would matter if you had a touchscreen or a controller, it would still offer it. Hope that helps :)

IOS12 is a must, of course...however, you must also make sure you've updated to the latest Google Maps!

with Carbridge for apple carplay u can use any app from appstore on apple carplay

Carbridge is only available if your iPhone is jailbroken.

I use Google Maps on Android Car every week and I love it. Now I tried it for the first time in Apple CarPlay and I am a little disappointed. I miss some important functionalities: 1. While navigating Google Maps displays alternative routes but I cannot switch to them. 2. After panning in the map I don't know how to center the map again on the car. On Android Car there is a button for this. Any help is highly appreciated! Thanks, Martin

Depends on the vehicle you are using it in. Some vehicles offer wireless Carplay at the moment and some don’t.

Haven’t seen anything about Streetview being offered yet. Waze will be available in the near future. It’s still in BETA testing at the moment so not available just yet.

No speed limits and it cuts out audio to 0% when given directions, and it talks a lot more than Apple, at least in the USA. Voice also sounds bad. I keep hearing that its so much better than Apple, but Apple has been good in the USA since IOS 11. The only feature I like is that I can download maps offline and maybe seeing satellite images, but I'm not too sure on that one because its harder to see.

Well the 5S does support CarPlay but I'm unsure as to whether or not your phone supports iOS12 or the latest update by Google. If it does on both fronts then I can't see it being a problem.

I have an iPhone 5s and in my 67 reg Polo it all works perfectly with the Google maps. Well happy.
