I'm so glad Noe said yes to this video and Mahalo Scott for listening to her 😂 it's fascinating, to me it sounds like clinking crystal or small wind chimes, it's a beautiful sound.😸🦘

Totally agree about the sound: so delicate, like fine porcelain cups or saucers tapping each other. Yet being made by a red-hot avalanche slowly tumbling over itself, amazing and mesmerizing. Many thanks to Noe and Scott!

For a moving wall so big, bold and potentially destructive to sound so delicate is mind-blowing! It's also fascinating to watch, especially the collapses of the red hot portions of the lava. Mahalo Scott and Noe for this one, whenever and wherever it was from.

If you think about it, it is scary in a way.. If you've ever seen or been near a pahoehoe flow, you know there are places or ranges where you risk being swallowed by lava if you approach. But if the flow is A'a, it looks slow and clunky- making it appear you can approach it closer without risking the same as a pahoehoe flow [progresses forward all at once rather than 'flows'] when the risks are the same despite difference in form.

The best explanation of where the term A'a lava came from a small boy I overheard visiting the park years ago. He said they call it A'a because when the native Hawaiians stepped on the lava they cried out AAA aaa in pain! 😂🤣😆. Truly a kid's view of the world.
