This is a video done as a supplement to a watercolor class taught by Gary Tucker in Boston. This video was made to demonstrate how an artist might work with color to create a more pronounced center of interest. To find a center of interest is perhaps the first step to organizing the content. I have used the small house on the horizon as a center of interest and used the complimentary hues of blue against orange to generate a more striking sense of light in the motif. Additional in the sky and foreground warm was juxtaposed over cool and visa versa to create a glow in the painting.
This painting utilizes and underpainting of yellow ochre and cobalt blue. The darker washes are created by various mixtures of Burnt sienna and cobalt blue. I hope this exercise is helpful in simplifying the process of composition with color - and illuminating as to how we generate glow through transparancy

Gary thank you again for creating. You give a unique video experience from others, in that you explain the thought process of how and why you do the things you do in your paintings, truly "teaching" us, versus just "copy along what I do". I find it fascinating how you went through the layers in this painting. Thank you again. John

Thank you, Mr. Tucker. This demo is one of my favorites between yours. Acts which seem so simple but hide in themselves sensibility, long time experience, deep perception of theory principles... In other words, Culture: a simple way to express difficult things, fresh and floating as watercolor and human life.
